I always "clear coat" everything I spray paint. It gives it the extra added durability, protecting the paint, and makes the finish incredibly shiny. Just my 2 cents. |

Hello Doug Your are very welcome. I have found that the Valspar paint flows very much after it is sprayed on. Much more so than any other paint that I have sprayed. The Catalyst Hardener will help in drying time speeding the cure time span of the paint much faster and will make your Paint stay shinny for much longer, but if used without the $15.00 can of Catalyst hardener it will take a full 24 Hours to set up good enough to take off the masking tape or masking paper. be cautious of how much reducer that you use it does not take much of it at all to thin Valspar paint. I elected to use the John Deere paint thinner reducer it is only about $9.00 per quart. Prior to spray Painting remember to Drain your compressor Tank as the water build up that accumulates in the bottom of your air compressor Tank will show in the finished paint and make it cloudy after it dries. I used the John Deere reducer as well to wash all of my Panels prior to spraying them, it rid's them of all air born grease and lint. Mix your Paint, Reducer and hardener according to the directions and let the paint sit the required time mixed in your spray gun cup before spraying with it. If you add the Three together to fast they can separate or Mix up Lumpy. Just take your time and you will get a nice job. Please Post pictures when you are done we all Like seeing a fresh john Deere Paint job. i hope this helps, Kurt |

Thought you Deere guys might get a kick out of this story. I posted it on my Facebook page. Walked past this little guy many times yesterday morning before it finally moved when I got a little too close... just about stepped on it. Didnt move from that spot till I drove past it with the garden tractor while spraying weeds in the yard. Jumped up & ran (kind of) around the corner of the shop and, I assumed, to the woods. I assumed wrong. Found it about an hour later in the shop cuddled up to the only other Deere it could find. After a little talk about what mom is supposed to look like & a little coaxing, it found its way to the woods.

Hello Kurt, Thank you for the tips. Your 318 turned out really nice. I have searched some on painting and was not planning on using the thinner but I sure want to avoid the orange peel. I will be reconsidering that. Doug |

Roger, I have been getting those type of emails a lot. The only way Robb could keep our glorious trolls out, was to suspend new registrations indefinitely. As for when they will be open again, I'm not sure. |

I got an e-mail this morning (not unusual) with a Forum question. "I was hoping to open an account on the WFM site as I have a few questions on my 214. When I click the Register for Account link I get a message that says groups are not set up to accept new members. Can you help me get registered? Thanks XXXXXXX" Since I am not a moderator or do i want to be one I told him I would post his question here and maybe someone could tell him what he was doing wrong. Roger |

Hello Doug I can tell you that you have to be a Little cautious when spraying Valspar Paint on your John Deere. I would suggest that you do not load the paint Heavy as it flow's much once it get's on the panel being about Four to five minutes after it is sprayed on the Panel. If you are using an older style spray gun with high pressure spray it at about 25-30 P.S.I. with a medium to wide Fan on the spraying head & Just Mist the paint on at first and let it dry about Twenty to Twenty five minutes between coats. After the second coat is applied let it dry a full half hour before following up with the third and final coat. Using a hardener is good for keeping the paint shinny for a longer duration but using it without the John Deere paint thinner will cause Orange peel in the finished look painted result. Mix the Paint-Catylist Hardener & Thinner per the Instructions on the Paint Can, slowly adding the Hardener as if you hurry mixing the hardener in it will not blend correctly into the paint it may try to separate if added too Quickly .You will need some lacquer thinner to clean up your spray gun when you are done. I hope this helps, Kurt |

Mr. Drew, Thank you for the response. First time with a paint gun, so everything is new experience. First for dismantling, prep, painting, only used spray cans for partial/touchup jobs in past. Thanks again, Doug |

Hi Guys, I am planning on painting a 140 H3 and I plan on using a spray gun. How much paint does it take to paint the whole tractor, (frame, under fender pan and hood)? I did a search and found one thread that used a quart on a 318. Sound about right? I plan on doing the 3 coats, Valspar w/hardener. Thanks, Doug |

Adam, the 50 cart looks straight and the patina is easy enough to fix. Nice find. |

I may eventually Chuck but space is my enemy. LOL! They are a bit small and I agree they look awesome behind the RF. I do have a 112 project I recently picked up but it's a square fender. One thing the two pieces currently share is matching patina! Adam |

Nice score on the 50 cart Adam!! They are a bit hard to find out my way also, and the one I had went with a little 110 round fender tractor I sold a couple of years ago. The 50 carts look real good behind the RF tractors and also paired with the vintage RER models -- are you going to get a "correct" tractor for it now?? Chuck |

I joined the 50 cart club tonight. Now I have the 80, the 50, the 30, and a 10P. This is another cart that in my area is pretty rare. It's very solid and all there so I'm happy. Adam

You guys are good. I already had it sprayed down w/ PB blaster for about and hour, I went out and grabbed that collar and gave a good yank and off it came!
Here are some other pics of this 430 that I picked up this weekend. I spotted it about 3 years ago while out turkey hunting. A couple of years ago I talked to the guy and he wanted way too much IMO for the condition it appeared to be in and the fact that it was sitting outside. This weekend I went and tried again and offered even less than I did a couple years ago and I no sooner stopped talking and he says 'OK'. He even let me use his trailer to haul it home. After checking things over, it only took about 10 minutes of work to get it running. I runs really well after getting the air worked out of the fuel system - - sounds good too. I need to find a new nose for it-or a new hood. The grill is very rough, but I my try to reshape it and get it close to normal.
