I talked to Jim B. at your plow day. That was one of the first things he said to me, no word on the DVD.

I thought about the DVD again after reading Paul Dyer's story in the Little G newsletter. I didn't receive an email back from Deb.

Paul nice story in the newsletter.

I saw bits and pieces of the video. I saw the part where they interviewed Jim Bandsma and a couple others. Also, is there any progress on the video or book that was rumored to be made of this historic day? That day was one of the most memorable days of my life. Very awesome experiance.

Shannon, very nice to meet you! We had a great time in the line up and waiting. I don't think my fiance ever stopped laughing from the bullchit we were discussing. Hope to go again in 2013.

The Drews, also nice to meet you as well. Keep that Josh on Deere's! I have been a farm raised kid my whole life. At a young age my Dad had to sell the farm, but where ever we moved there was fields and tractors to keep me happy. I'd spend hours sitting in my room just watching a Deere 4440 and 5 or 6 bottom plow rip up the land by a house we lived in, in town. Then we moved up on the ridge and I helped a farmer. Deere's were his rides. 4020, 4230, 4455-Mexican Edition, 2840, and a 2030. Now I live in Tomah, but there is a field close by and every once in a while I see a 4430 doing field work. Nice to see Josh so facinated by Deere GT's. Reminds me of myself at his age.

If there is a video or book being made, I hope is is available soon. My Dad wants to see what it was all about, but photo's on my end are minimal. (Had to park in Deere lockdown. My Jeep and trailer were locked up and wouldn't ya know it, I left my camera in the Liberty. Kari had her camera, but was more interested in taking hundreds of pics of Joe Diffie and Chad Little.) She didn't even take a pic of me in the parade! It was a great day and a great event! Toro Company-I work for the plant in Tomah, turns 100 in 2014. I know they will not throw a party even close to the caliber of Deere Horicon Works 100th.

How can we get a copy of the videos that where playing on the big screen? Was putting stuff away today and started to think about this again and the great time me and my brother had that day {he drove my old 100 the tractor that got me hooked on RF Deeres) It was a bonding event for us and he now is hooked on old Deeres. he worked at Deere in assembly one season. He has since clamed my 73 112 with blower and one of my homemade intergral hitches I left laying around. His daughters have also claimed a tractor each a 70 and a different 100.Really a small price to pay to get the girls outside and active in something that don't have a screen involved(tv,gameboy or whatever they call em now and the computer), Now we are a Deere family.
Thank you to Horicon and WFM, Shannon

P.s. M.Drew yep half empty. lol

Tim, That Kari! Noisy and messy.

I did have a few good long visits with Horicon events organizers Saturday. I am not at liberty to share great details of our conversations, but I can share this.

Horicon Deere WILL have a LARGE PUBLIC event for EVERYONE to bring their machines to in 2013 for the 50th Annivesary. It sounded like it would be held about 2 miles west of Horicon at the Dodge County Fair grounds. I made the suggestion to them that they, Horicon Works themselves, register here on WFM and other forums to share with all of us information "straight from the deere's mouth" about the when/what/where/who & how the event will transpire. Hopefully the take the idea to heart.

I will say this, the Horicon Works Deere sure know how to throw a party! I can hardly wait to see how they think they are going to top this weekend!

Well, settled back down after the big weekend. A HUGE thanks to Jim for his efforts to get us into the event. My first time in a parade and it was fun. The wife walked along side the tractor with the stroller with my son.

Thanks for the link Mike, couldn't find it on the radio website.

I'm in the top right corner at 3:06.

Here are a bunch of the pictures I took:

A few thoughts;

As a retiree of John Deere Horicon Works and a resident of the city of Horicon I couldn't have more proud of John Deere and our city. I felt John Deere couldn't have done a better job hosting the event.

Once again the people of this hobby are the finest people you can find. Tim Deichler said it best when he said "that we are just a big family". I appreciated the nice turnout of all the nice tractors and attachments.

I hope our presence on Saturday will inspire John Deere to celebrate 50 years of consumer products in 2013.

Thank you everyone for your support and understanding as I went through some frustrating times with this event.

Lastly, THANK YOU to some of the nicest people I could ever meet for making this event a wonderful memory.

Hey Paul! Nice meeting up with you Friday night! Nice to know you were in the room next to us. We tried to keep it down, but you know........LOL! I agree, John Deere and everyone involved could not have made us feel anymore welcome. I was on cloud 9! I could not believe the amount of people! Thousands what seemed to be coming out of the woodwork and concrete of those old building in town! I loved it! And the signs we got were very nice! I did not xpect that at all.

Jim Bandsma, any word on the ticket number or name as to whom won the STX 38 Deere Motorsports Edition raffle tractor? Just like to know who the lucky person was!

All in all, a weekend that went by way to fast! So many people yesterday, so little time in a day to talk with all of them I would have liked. But I won't forget this event.....ever! This is right up on the top of my most memorable moments in my life! Truely thankful to everyone from Horicon, John Deere Horicon workers for making the best dam garden tractors in the world, and those people who were in the blue shirts for food and all the other events. Those guys deserve a atta boy or atta girl for all the work they did! Also like to thank the people that let us be a part of the parade, I appreciate it and will not forget that! And Jim Bandsma, very nice having dinner with you yesterday before I left and taking Kari and I downtown to see your display, very nice! And the fellowship for a hour or so after. Very nice to meet you and your wife. And to all the great WFM members I got to finally meet after talking with ya'll on here. I met Paul D and Mike D in Little G in 08 briefly, but the rest of you I got to talk with, it was a pleasure to meet and BS with!

I'll try to fetch my photos off Kari's camera as mine was locked down in Deere security in my Jeep. Got a few pics, but Kari failed to get many of the parade, including me! So I hope someone was paying attention, or maybe I will be in the book or video! Or if any of you WFM members got a pic of me and the 112 and plow going through the parade, I'd like to see it.

Thanks Horicon, and John Deere for a day I will never forget! I appreciate it!

Mike Drew said it well, The City of Horicon and John Deere could not have done any more to make us feel more welcomed. I got to visit with so many employees, engineers, supervisors and past plant managers and every one of them were were just great people.

It was a very nice, large parade and the streets were just lined with people. Deere supplied free drink, food, children and adult activities, as well as Chad Little and Joe Diffie.

Thank you Horicon Works for the honor of parading and displaying a few of my machines.

I also was so proud to be chosen to represent The past machines of the great Horicon works. And woweeewow is all i can say.sat and talked to Chad little for awile and had my board sighned by him.met many old men and learned so much yesterday. just before I got to the bridge btween the horicon plants I found my brother in law and he gave a real heart felt hand shake for pulling his service cart in the parade, then i stood up on the old 63, took off my hat and stood at attention as I went under the overpass as a salute to all the engeneers. designers and employees that make the great machines. Had a great time talkin to all the members before the parade, we had a real BS session. but the lining up in the middle of the road i still dont understand. could have used some water from the 2 girls on the Gator right Tim. the rception we got was jubulant. I need to getr some copies of the videos. got to get to work more to follow. very proud to be part of it Shannon

WOW! About all I can say! I want to start out by thanking Jim Bandsma, Scott Woolridge, (for the paper to get in), John Deere Horicon Works, and the city of Horicon for one incredible event! I have NEVER recieved such great hospitality in ANY event I have taken my 112. The signs we received after the parade was just awesome. Words can't describe how appreciative I am for everything Deere and ALL, and I mean ALL involved in this! It was truely a remarkable and historic day and am just tickled to be a part of it! I WILL be at the 2013 event, if there is a sign up, I want to be first on it, I am darn proud to bleed green! And yes, Mike Drew, Joe Diffie's "John Deere Green" IS the anthem, for our house anyway. Kari and I are thinking of having that song as our grand march when ever we decide to get married.

Again, I want to express my gratitude and thank all who work hard on this event, and also to thank all of the people I met today. You guys are more than just collectors, we all are kind of a family of sorts really. Thanks to Jim, and John Deere Horicon Works, very happy to be a part of this!

I am home! Almost ran the whole works off I-90 by Oakdale and Camp Douglas. Eyes were getting heavy! I didn't sleep a wink last night due to severe allergies, and was miserable all night. At 5am this morn I had enough and showered at the hotel and went to Wally and picked up some Zertec in Beaver Dam. Really helped! But from Baraboo to Tomah, it was "Jesus take the wheel" so to speak. I hit the rumble strip and then I was awake! Load is home, sitting in the drive and probably going to Church in morn as well as I am just too tired to deal with it.

Again, thanks to all! And very nice meeting you Jim, and everyone else I met today. Always great to put a name with the face I talk to on here. Ya'll are great!

The City of Horicon and John Deere welcomed us with open arms. Being in the parade of course you don't get to see much of the parade. They had very nice signs for everyone that had a tractor in the parade. For being in the parade they gave us access to all the food and drinks and the Joe Diffie concert. Over all it was a great day. Thanks again Jim Bandsma!

OK guys post your pictures.

I think Bandsma knew just about every one in this picture..

I guess when Joe Diffie sings John Deere Green it's like an anthem in Horicon. Everyone stood up and sang along.

I got a picture of just a few of the tractors.

I'll try to post a few more pictures tomorrow.

I dug up that video I talked about. This parade was for the 2 millionth mower.

Took pictures of the TV screen with my digital camera

According to some info I found, the 2 millionth was in 1994.

See you guys tomorrow!

What a terrific looking tractor, Mike! I would love to interview you regarding your tractor and your overall parade experience! Why don't you contact me when the dust settles? lagc_kate@yahoo.com. Send me some pics and I can interview you.

My boss Brandon Pfeiffer will be in Horicon. I am jealous I cannot attend as I have a commitment to Darias and Max at the Half Century of Progress Show in Rantoul. You guys have FUN!!

Wow Jim, I just found this thread. What an awesome show and huge amount of work! I'll give you a call about the snowblower tomorrow afternoon. I'd love to make the trip up for this show (and just pick it up in person), but I'm just a bit too far to make the whole drive on short notice. I'll plan on making the show in 2013 for sure though!

Thanks to Jim for all the efforts. It is greatly appreciated.

I got my pulling/plowing/loader/show tractor all polished up, the disk plow cleaned up and even the loader waxed for the parade/show Saturday. Very excited to participate!

The viewing of the equipment will be open to the public. There will be equipment on display that will not be part of the parade. The food soda and entertainment will be for employees and retirees and participants of the parade. The display area is across the street from the VIP area so anyone can listen to Joe Diffy. I suspect the downtown businesses will roll out the red carpet to the visitors, There is a bar directly across the street where the entertainment will be.

Cool Mike. If I get notice back from Deere stateing they don't want me, I might go. I was told by a man that got me the invite that Chad Little and the John Deere Motorsports cars will be there. He was unsure if Chad would for sure be there or not. However, Country Music singer Joe Diffie is scheduled to appear and sing the famous, (my favorite song), "John Deere Green". I am unsure if that is just for employees or everyone to see. Time will tell I guess. That's what Scott told me anyway.

I have a John Deere Motorsports uniform from a crew member in my closet. I bought it off e-bay and the only thing I did was make sure the pants and shirt fit, (they do!!), and hung it up. The name is still on the pants and everything. Pretty cool I thought. If I go, I might wear the shirt.

Mike, are you in it, or a spectator?

Tim, I will be there.

The last I heard there will be John Deere garden tractors, full size tractors, snowmobiles, gators and grain drills in the parade, along with vehicles from each decade, ALONG with the regular floats as you would see in a normal parade. And as Kate said, those will be on display afterwards, along with blacksmith demos.

Should be a neat event!

Hey guys -- I have the official word from Horicon's factory manager (who is also the show director) as to what is going to happen at the 100 Year Anniversary.

There will be a parade on Saturday the 27th representing one of each tractor that rolled out of Horicon. So far the parade is estimated to be 1.5 hours long. Needless to say, if they add any more tractors to that, the parade could go on all day long, which is what we don't want to happen. With this in mind, unless you were specifically invited to join the parade you might as well count on being a spectator. Really, that is not such as bad thing, as you will be witnessing John Deere history!

Neither Horicon or the show director is trying to be exclusive to who can or who can't participate in the parade, but the fact is that they expected ~4,000 people to show up and that number has now exceeded 6,000. It would be hard to accommodate every who wanted to be in the parade at this point.

After the parade there will be an area for you to view the tractors that are involved with the parade. This viewing, again, is not for random tractor display, but is just for parade participants.

Please understand that the show director and those assisting him did not realize how viral this would become and they are REALLY please at the enthusiasm the collectors have expressed! They are already gearing for the 2013 event showcasing 50 Years of JD Garden Tractors and hope to accommodate everyone at that time.

LAGT will be at the events on the 27! We plan to do a nice write-up centering around Horicon and it's past and present employees and will have more info on the 2013 show for you as well.

thanks for understanding guys -- go enjoy the parade!

Is anyone going to this event? I sent in my waiver from Deere/Horicon Works on Sat. So I hope to hear back from them this week that I am accepted in the parade. Just was wondering if anyone is going from the WFM stable.

Well,
Thanks for all your efforts up to this point Jim ! Maybe they didn't realize the following that exists ? And wait...what ? They don't want the very first tractor that came off the line there ? It must be no good...why don't I just bring my trailer when I come up to get the tires and take it off your hands ?!?!?

Now you can see what I have been dealing with.

Todays information. Deere is looking for 1975 through 1980 tractors at this point. Until today I was never informed that they were putting a cap on the number of tractors in the parade. I was told in May to find as many pre 1975 tractors as possible. John Deere was going to put ads in magazines looking for tractors that is originally how bad they wanted tractors. That is what I was trying to do until today. My 1963 110 that has been used numerous times by the factory for promotional purposes is kicked out of the parade and they told me to bring a 140 instead.
Today they told me one person has committed 18 tractors to the parade. First I heard of it!
I guess the issue is they stuck their neck out for the VIP tickets and now they think they have too many.
Personally, I wish I would have never gotten involved with this as I thought it would be fun, but.......

Warning I talked to three people from the factory today and none of the stories matched.

I too have been in contact with the Horicon Deere Plant. Here is what I have been told. The parade was open to 30 tractors by pre-registration due August 1st. All spots have been spoken for and NO ADDITIONAL TRACTORS CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE. Like Mike stated, parade and display are open to the public for viewing only.

It would have been nice to have known this information back in April/May.........

OK here is what I got back from Deere Horicon:

The parade and display area are open to the public FOR VIEWING, not participating in.

Jim, if you know something other than this please post it up.

I have been in contact with the Factory.
There is a limited number of spots available for the "public" to be in the parade and the factory has been contacting people on their own to work to fill them.

There is apparently an application required to be filled out ahead of time.

I'm going to find out if/how many spots are available and will post the details once I get that.

The individual I talked to did not know about a display location after, but will look into it and let me know.

Hopefully there isn't too much red tape involved in this...

John, I didn't think about that. I just thought I would post so anyone who wanted more info can contact him. If someone could delete that post, I would appreciate it. That is the contact person I got from Lawn and Garden Collector magazine on this event for Horicon. I didn't mean to cause a problem just trying to help, especially ones who are planning on coming from a long ways away.

It is my understanding that any John Deere tractor or can be part of the parade. It is also my understanding that the people who bring tractors will have the same access to the events as employees for their participation in the parade. They are hoping to have a one and half hour parade so this would require a fair amount of entries to take up the time. The parade will start on the east edge of Horicon at 11:30 am and will proceed through Horicon ending about 1 block from the factory. The street will be closed to allow tractors to travel to the factory
A parking lot at he factory will be reserved for display purposes.
It is also my understanding you will need a driver's license to participate in the parade.

Again I apologize for the confusion but I never have been invited to any meeting, it has been telephone messages left for me and that has been it.

Jim, I think some deeper investigation is required on this event. I was just informed by someone that the parade is limited to 30 tractors, by invite only. This event is coming up VERY soon and before people travel long distances just to head back home, information is requested. If you could pass a long any info you know or have, it would be appreciated, Jim. I see a few are coming quite a ways, and don't want them to make the run for nothing. Also, I was told by Lawn and Garden Collector magazine, that the parade is only thing open to public, the rest is for press and media, and employees. Any word on that end of it?

Thanks Jim for the help on this! It is frustrating I bet on your end with such limited info given out. I too am having a hard time as well getting info. Again, thanks Jim, and hope to hear back from you.

Latest information. The parade will be open to the public. Entries will be limited to John Deere entries only. After the parade there will be a display area and an opportunity to mingle with other collectors. There will be some tents in the area. If you wish to participate in the other activities that day you will need to contact me and I can help get that done.
I really hope to see a good number of L&G tractors so John Deere will have this fresh on their mind in 2013 for the 50th Anniversary of the 110.
I f you wish to pre register with me I will need your name, address and what you are bringing. I f you are bringing children I need to know their ages.
I appreciate your patience and understanding so far. I am sure as the date gets closer the information will start to flow better!

Tim, They are depending on JD owners to come with their equipment and participate and have agreed to allow space after the parade for us to congregate.
It has been challenging to determine who is in charge and what is really happening. The local snowmobile club has concerns as well.

I just got word from L&G Collector on Facebook that the parade IS open to the public. They will get more details as to how and where a person can join the parade. They are unsure if anything else is open to us or not. I am sure if a good number of Deere's show up, L&G Collector Magazine will be there, probably why Horicon Works called them. That is about all they knew for now, and what I know. So, I am in if all goes well!

Jim, and anyone else interested...........I posted on Lawn and Garden Collector's Facebook page about this, as they had a post about it....and quickly retracted it. It is NOT open to the public, and is by INVITE only. However, the person whom posted back on the L&G Collector page said she will know more hopefully today. And she will relay the message and any info she recieves. I am kind of bummed right now. I mean, we bought this equipment, and bleed Green, and would like to help celebrate this occasion...only turn 100 once. If it weren't for us consumers, they wouldn't have been where they are for 100 years. I understand that it is a big deal to them as employees, (I hope they think it is), and like to celebrate on their own, but come on, WI bleeds Green when it comes to mowers. IA, MN, MI and IL as well for that matter. If you are not a "fan" of L&G Collectors page, go there and become one, and hopefully today they will find out more info. They recieved a call from Horicon Works, and told them what is all going on, and they now find this out. So hopefully they will open the parade at least to the public, and have a event or 2 for the public afterwards. Just thought I would relay what I was just told, so people don't travel many miles just to be dissapointed with a load of Deere's and no place to go with them.

There is limited information on this event. This has been very frustrating for me. I volunteered to be on the committee and have only received several phone calls.
There will be a parade Saturday Morning followed by a place to display and that is all the info I have right now, I will keep plugging along on this.

Jim, any further info on this event? Just wondering if there is a flyer or anything? I have never been to Horicon, and have a GPS, just wondering where to go for parking and such? Thanks, Jim!

Do we need to register ahead of time for the parade and display area? If so, what is the deadline?

Mike,
Yes, that's it a VHS. I think I may have one of those VCR players, if it still works that is. I'm hoping the tape is still playable.

I have a vcr video, circa around 2000, that shows the Horicon plant and a parade for some celebration. The parade was made up of various Deere lawn and garden equipment made in Horicon. I need to find that tape again and watch it.

I understand there will be a celebration for that as well. I have not heard many details about either event. They had a huge celebration for the 25th, so it will be interesting what they will come up with.

Jim, have you heard anything about 50 years of garden tractor for 2013? probably too far off, but they may be planning already?

This event sounds neat too!

John Deere will celebrate 100 years in Horicon WI.
Details on the event are at a minimum but there will be a big parade.
I will provide updates as they become available.

John Deere is looking for people with John Deere lawn & garden to be in a parade downtown Horicon, Saturday August 27th. If you plan on coming please e-mail me and tell me what you are bringing. They will provide space for us after the parade to display the equipment. Thanks!
