Is there an adjustment to set height other than the gauge wheels? The 317 I had there was an adjustment knob... I can't find one on the 318. There's a decal on the deck that shows what to set the wheels for desired height...I thought the wheels are only to prevent scalping and should be a 1/4" from touching the ground.... thanks.

Hi Neil,

The big threaded rod with the roll pin on the back of the tractor right behind the cylinder.

You are correct. The gauge wheels are not supposed to run on the ground. They are there to keep the deck from scalping. That rod should turn by hand, but you may need to put some pliers on it. With the deck down, you can actually watch the deck go up and down as you turn the rod. Hope this helps.

Tony, you should not adjust that rod with pressure on it. Its best to set the deck to the height you want using the hydraulics, then screw the rod in to hold it at that height.

Thanks Jim. I'd hate to give out bad advise. I don't have a manual for the deck, and I didn't see anything about it in the manual for the tractor. I just figured it out on the spot the first time I wanted to mow.

Anyone have a good way to install the pin and the rest of the set-up?

Mike, you are very vague in your questions.
Refer to the picture above and ask about the specific part number.
