On my 318, I have a 46" deck I use and a 50" deck that's not being used. Is there a mulch kit for either of them? I'd swap 'em out if there's a kit for the 50". It's been so hot all I now mow is brown weeds but it'll grow come September and I'd rather not bag. Thanks! Eric |

Eric, I don't know of a kit for the 50 inch deck but the 46 deck mulching kit that I have on my deck is as shown below - doubt you can still get it from Deere anymore, but if you can it would be through the sales depart rather than the parts department as it is a "BM" number which is 'whole goods.'

Eric, I found a new Tricycler Mulch kit and installed it on my 46" deck (316 Onan). The install was straight forward but requires drilling 1-2 holes into the deck. Let me know if you need the install instructions and I'll email it to you. The Mulch kit works well even during peak growing season (spring). I used the blades that came with the kit and the deck is without the speed-up pulley. Before getting this 316 as a gift from my neighbor (Nov. '09) I would bag the clippings (Cadet LT1022). I was so impressed with the 316 I sold the Cub and also picked up a 420 w/ 44 FEL (430 hr).
I should mention the Tricycler throws a lot of cuttings toward the front of the tractor and it swirls around and can block the air intake grills. However, using the kit saves time (non-stop cutting) and the clippings are better for the lawn IMHO. Joe |

Thanks Joe. I think I'll look for one. I'm sure there's a dealer somewhere with a dusty one on a shelf. Nice 420. Someday, in the not too distant future, that's gonna be my next toy, with a loader. |

Thanks Eric. The 420 is a fine machine and makes moving mulch, stone, topsoil, logs a breeze. I moved 40yds of mulch in 1 day. It came in handy during last winter as well. I added 50lb cast to the 70lb starter and a ballast box since the time I took the photo and traction and stability improved significantly. The load lifter from AlzWelding is also handy. Joe |
