Why jammed mower deck, now unattached, tractor dead?
LX178 with Pirhana mulching deck.

My wife mowed soon after rain. The deck clogged, and the tractor stopped. But, it won't do anything, even with the clutch switch un-engaged( i realize its electrical switch). I detached the deck, even turned the flywheel under the engine where the deck belt would go to see if it would move and it does. The tractor its still dead. No starter when you turn the key.

Is there a kill sensor somewhere for the overloaded engine or clutch? Or is the clutch burned out? If so, why is the tractor DEAD?

Anything I can do?

Stu,

Welcome to the WFM Forum! Your LX178 model is considered a lawn tractor and is more completely discussed elsewhere on this site, but here is a suggestion or two and some wiring information to give you a place to start with finding your electrical issues.

There are interlocks on the starter for the LX178 (see wiring diagram below...) You should also ask this question in the "late model and lawn tractor" section of the site where more owners of these lawn tractors will see it and be able to help you...

You can see from the above that the PTO switch has a second set of contacts that are involved in the interlock of the starter cranking (the PTO clutch wiring on the remaining contacts is not shown in this partial schematic...) so you will need to plug that switch back in. Start your trouble shooting by verifying that you have a good 15 amp fuse, and that the brake switch is working properly. If you need more help, the guys in the Late Model and Lawn Tractor pages should be able add to what I have suggested...

Chuck
