Hi all, I'm getting my fender and side covers back from the sandblaster and I'll rattle can them. I was wondering if there was any advice about putting a rattle can clear coat or some kind of protection layer on top of the paint. I don't have a compressor of note so I'm just looking for options. Cheers, Neil. |

Neil, my 112 was painted with John Deere green can, and clear coated with Dupli-Color rattle can clear and turn't out awesome. We put 2 or 3 coats green, then 2 or 3 coats clear, leaving a day or so cure time for the green before clearing it. |

My 140 that I just completed(photos in thread below) was done with Rustoleum JD green rattle cans, no clear coat. Take a look at the photos. Leonard |

Cool - sounds like a plan. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to get the front end back together and fire it back up. Wife's getting nervous about how long it's been in bits - I told her it's like a fine wine; it takes time... |

Tim, did you sand between coats of green and between coats of clear, and if so, what did you sand with? Cheers, Neil. |

Neil, I am spraying with a gun not a rattle can, but between coats, I am using 400 3M "between coats" sanding pads. They are flexible purple pads that worked great. Very light pressure (almost none) removed imperfections in the first three coats. The hood turned out like glass when I went over the primer with these things. Having done rattle can in the past, it should work about the same. One tip I received a few years back was to wet down the garage floor before starting to paint. As most of us don't have a paint booth, the moisture on the floor will keep the dust to a minimum when painting. I plan on trying this one out tomorrow when I do my final coats. |

Neil, I believe we did wet sand it in between. I can't remember what grit it was, but it was very light. |
