I just sat down and totaled the mileage traveled for the plow day... 3097 miles one way! That's 6194 both ways... that's a lot of miles traveled. Thanks to everyone who came. Kurt |

Rich, you and your Dad are the winners for furthest traveled! Thanks for coming out, it was nice to see some one else with two good machines, even though the color of paint was different on them! Kurt P.S. I'm pretty sure Gary was having problems with his 420... not checking the hour meter. Just admit it, sometimes they all need a little TLC. |

Kurt, you are right Gary had the hood up on his 420 to check the hours on the rebuilt engine. I admit when I noticed a hood up on one of those “Off Color Tractors” the first thing that popped in my mind was “time to stir the pot” Looks like it worked. Scott

Hey, my hood was never up, nor did I ever need a pull. I think my red one was a little hot, she would start acting like she was starved for fuel, when the tank was full... I was keeping up with those green ones that had double the horsepower... And she is 42 years old. I do think I saw a few green hoods up, but no picts... |

I had a great time Saturday. I traveled 274 miles round trip and it was so worth it. Thanks Gary for the use of the 430. I WILL have a 3 Point Hitch SOON. Special thanks to Gary, Kurt and his dad for putting this together. Here is a link to the pictures I took. http://picasaweb.google.com/117599230610950301473/ErieMiPlowDay72410 Funny thing those "Off Color Tractors" had their hood up or needed a pull. Guess it is proof "Nothing Runs Like A Deere" Scott |

We had 30 registered plowers, and 40 tractors! It's amazing what the internet can organize! My Dad thinks we plowed between 16 and 18 acres, not bad... Dad was really impress with what all we got done, I think he expected 2 or 3 acres done... he just didn't understand... Thanks to everyone for coming out. It wouldn't have been a plow day with out a bunch of people plowing! I had a great time and look forward to putting something together in the future. You sure meet the nicest people doing things like this. I added up all of the hours traveled by the participants... 49 hours worth of driving for people to get to the plow day, and 49 hours more for everyone to get home! I haven't added up all of the miles yet. I think the people of Erie got a kick out of us plowing a full size field with a bunch of little tractors. Thanks again to everyone for coming. |

The field was great and we all had a great time. Now can we get Kurt to have a Fall plow day this year ???? LOL Matt don't worry your not the only one that had trouble. I popped a front tires on the junk 430 loading it on the trailer. I guess all the dry rot caught up I guess its time for one more set of V61s to get mounted up LOL If anyone has more pictures feel free to email them to me and I will add then to the rest. Sorry Jesse at this time this is the only picture that I have ready still processing the other 200 pictures. Jim Dimmerling was nice enough to let me pull his 2 bottom and let me say it pulls no harder than any single bottom that I have ever pulled.

Gary, you are right with the Unidrive. I pulled up the book and it says to remove the case halves like you said. I have it made as my case side contains nothing. Just lift off and the C clip is right there. 99% of the gear case is contained in the other half. The clip is 3 bucks. But I will take your advise and change everything.... Is loosing an antire axle out the side a first at a plowday?? LOL |

Yea, everything went well until my axle and wheel fell out of the housing on the wheel horse LOL. C clip broke. Yea it literally fell out and dropped my housing into the dirt. Then my straps broke off my trailer holding the WH down and making it slide to the back and scratching the heck out of the seat on the ramps. (Literally snapped the straps) Guess it wasnt its day lol. |

Thanks for coming out to help Gary. The ground turned really easy. Now we just need to keep the rain away. Today has been hit or miss with rain, mostly miss though. I drove home and was in a rain storm for about 2 miles and it's been dry the rest of the day. Anyone who's coming, please be ready for the heat. I put a map with some local restaurants on the back of the rules and safety sheet. Please consider going out to lunch to cool off. Thanks, Kurt |

As long as it only rains in the afternoon, which is what they are calling for, we should be able to plow. 2/3 to 3/4 of the field is very well drained sand, so traction won't be a problem. They are only calling for .20 of an inch of rain... |

I just watched the weather... they are calling for some strong afternoon storms on Saturday... http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/48133 Here is the local Detroit weather forcast... http://www.wxyz.com/subindex/weather I hope everyone who is traveling a distance watches the weather before they leave. Unfortanatly there really isn't a rain date possible. We can't plow on Sunday because the field is right across from my parents church... I don't want to do that. Kurt |

Just checked weather.com. They are calling for a 40% chance for scattered thunderstorms... High of 87. The past 3 days here they've had a 50% chance of rain, and we haven't seen a drop. I'm hoping for the same for Saturday. Kurt |

Wes, the most direct way, would be to take 23 south to US 223 and head east. You'll travel about 2-3 miles maybe, and come to a dead end. That is Secor Rd. Turn left. Travel maybe 1/2 mile, and you'll come to a 4 way stop, turn right. That is Samaria Rd. Which turns into Lakeside Rd... which is the road the field is on. You'll travel through the town of Samaria, to a stop light. Continue through the light, the field is about 3 miles east of the intersection. I'll have signs out, and there will be a bunch of crazy people in the middle of a field with their little tractors... The field is about 12-17 minutes off the highway. If some one is coming from I-75, you'll get off at the "Luna Pier" exit, and head west. The field is right off the same road as the exit, maybe 5- 10 minutes. |

Kurt, I will be coming from the north down US-23. In your opinion, which is the best way to come in off 23. According to the map there is several ways but I don't want to get lost or anything. Thanks, WES |

No new updates, it's just coming up really fast! I can't believe it's only 3 weeks away. The pota-pot has been rented, and I've thought about how I'm going to lay the field out, and directional signage... My brother started cutting wheat 2 days ago, and I think the field is one of the first ones cut. I'll go past it tomorrow and take pictures. I'll have everything ready in time... I'm looking forward to giving my tractor a work out, and meeting some new people. |

I took off the 24th as well. I'm in for sure. As for other tractors, this Wheel Horse is following me as well! I broke down and ordered its clevis hitch the other day from the local WheelHorse / Toro dealer. After searching eBay for 5 months already I havent found 1 kit for it. Darn hitch was $255.00 but it included everything. (Hitch , swing arm, lift cable , and everything else.)

That's great Rick, I'll be plowing with my red one, so you'll fit right in... No limits on what plows except the number of bottoms in the ground... 2 tops per tractor. My Dad would be done in about 2 hours with his 10 bottom plow.

Yup, that's home. Flat as a pancake. That will be easy plowing up there. All that left over silt. You don't even have much clay there like 20 miles away just east of Toledo. |

Every thing is finalized now, thanks everyone for your input... We are hosting a plow day this summer at one of my parents farms. It will be in Erie Michigan, on July, 24th, from 8 am to 4 pm. We'll have 30 acres in one field, and 16 in another across the street. It will be wheat stubble that will be bailed, or chopped before we plow it. This is all sandy ground, and is very easy plowing. The field is about 4 miles off I-75, very easy to get to. The address across the street from the field is... 1100 Lakeside Rd. Erie, MI 48133 The road is kind of weird, it has 4 different names depending on what cross road you are at... Luna Pier Rd, Lakeside Rd, M-151, Samaria Rd... It will be open to any make of garden tractor, I'm not going to open it up to big tractors because the field wouldn't take very long to finish with large equipment. I'll probably rent 1 or 2 port a pots, and we'll have a couple of coolers of water. Everyone would be responsible for their own food. Since this is my parent's property I'd like to have no alcohol. Thanks, Kurt brushfiredesign@yahoo.com Here are some photos of where we'll be...

Mark, I'm sure there will be a few extra tractors with plows on them... It's looking like the 24th will work the best for most people, I'm going to talk to my Dad and brother tomorrow, and I'll let everyone know the final date after our conversation. |

Gary, I just googled the address, The site is right up the street from My Dads old Junk yard / car lot. I will definitely schedule my visit during your plow day. You are straight up Telegraph Rd. I will visit, but not sure about bringing a tractor though. I don't know how Mom would feel about dropping off my daughter for the day while I go play. ha ha. She might not like it to much. |

I'm in. Probebly the 24th for me. Since I get off the Monday before for the observance of the 4th I have to work that following Saturday. |

Hi all, Gary Blackman and I are thinking about hosting a plow day this summer at one of my parents farms. It will be in Erie Michigan, in July, either the 10th or 24th. We'll have 30 acres in one field, and 16 in another across the street. It will be wheat stubble that will be bailed before we plow it. This is all sandy ground, and is very easy plowing. The field is about 4 miles off I-75, very easy to get to. The address across the street from the field is... 1100 Lakeside Rd. Erie, MI 48133 It will be open to any make of garden tractor, I'm not going to open it up to big tractors because the field wouldn't take very long to finish with large equipment. I'll probably rent 1 or 2 port a pots, and we'll have a couple of coolers of water. Everyone would be responsible for their own food. Since this is my parent's property I'd like to have no alcohol. I'd like some input on the date. If we're going to organize this, I'd like to have a lot of people be able to come. Please email me and let me know which of those two dates would work. Thanks, Kurt brushfiredesign@yahoo.com |
