Hey Matt

It was nice to meet you even if it was in passing. Did you stick around for the pulling? I was doing my best to help Don down the track for a "full pull", but I think I made him laugh too much!

I was very surprised with the power of the Wheel Horse. That 10 Magnum kept pulling and when it couldnt it was spinning. I thought the belt would go first.
Also during the last run there was a bunch of Cub Guys who were stuck and it took forever to get through. I said hey lets get this junk out of the way and let the Horse and Deere plow lol. They knew I was kidding and laughed. All in good fun.

It we be great to have a Wheel Horse doing the Plowday circuit. My cousin has a B10 and he pulls a 10 inch and he plows up the entire neighborhood with it.

When we were plowing at the Mifflinville location on average soil conditions I could not plow any faster with my 140 hydro than a Cub Cadet 8 hp 3-speed because the ground was rough with rock or corn stalks or because field had a rough finish from no-till planting .... so if you went too fast your engine would start cutting out because fuel was being shook in the carburetor bowl.

A 10 hp gear drive has plenty of power to plow with in a gear drive.... and the 7-8 hp tractors do fine also.

Matt
Your 10 will do just fine. You wanna have your ground seed fast enough to roll the dirt into the next furrow. If it falls back into the furrow your plowing, then you ned to grab another gear. I plow in 2nd gear about 2/3 throtel on my cubs. I have 10's 12' and 14 they all do just fine. Also the way you have your plow set up will make a huge differance on how your tractor dose.

Hey Matt .... you need to buy a used hitch and save some money to buy a helper spring for that W. Horse. The helper spring mounts externally and looks something like a spring on the hoods of certain older model cars.... in fact some have modified that hood spring to work on a W. Horse. See if the dealer can cancel and get a price on a helper spring .... otherwise without the spring takes a real man!

Cool cant wait. I just ordered the Wheel Horses Clevis Hitch Setup. I couldnt find a full setup ANYWHERE SO I broke down and paid the 230 bucks. Its not "thats bad" since the deere stuff used could be this much as well. I just need rear weights for it and an extra sleeve hitch plow. Nates maybe got a hookup for me.

Ok guys I am going to try and talk some Virginia guys into coming to this. It sounds like a lot of fun and two plowdays in a row would be a great way to start the Spring off. We will be bringing the green stuff if the boys say yes.

Matt
The Ft Allen Plow day is a nice time. Ive meet the deere guys good bunch of guys. Id encourage you to come, even though most of the tractors are cubs. The horse teams pulling are cool to watch. Id post pics but I have a hard time resizing them down to the size requried here. All you need to know is they have real good cooking in the kitchen. I come up from Sc to the show, as I grew up about an hour from there, nuttin like home!

Located just south of Pittsburgh Pa near town of Scottsdale.

This is a simultaneous gathering of an antique farm machinery show and eastern Cub Cadet club meeting.

Horses, antique farm tractors and vintage garden tractors all plowing in same field. I understand they have 40 acres reserved for plowing this year.

Complete details for this event can be found at ihregistry.com
