I use "semi flat black" in spray cans. Deere has something similar (semi gloss black???). I get it from Walmart, here is the same stuff:

Here is what the tractor looks like with the green back on.

John, Thanks! I bet you made Cris Neal very happy today!

Chris Neal...
Congrats! We made 10,000 today and then some!

Let's get them all in a parade somewhere!
Think how long a lineup that would be! :-)
About 20 miles as I figure allowing just over 10 feet per tractor!

That is if you still wanted us to paint it..

Here is how I painted my 332's frame.

It was in pretty good shape except for the first foot where a leaky battery made a mess of the paint.

Its a worker tractors so I didnt see the point in tearing it all down to the bare frame. Plus, you dont see very much of the frame once all the green sheetmetal is on.

Mark Mann -

Generally speaking it's up to 1992. When you go to the Registry page, there is a list of models that are supported and that list is accurate. If you have a tractor model that is on the list and are having a problem getting it in the Registry, shoot me an email. There are a couple of type codes that have a problem in the Registry.

That's my 216 with a 212 hood on it. The hydraulic lift really helps my old bones with that blower. Good luck with that nice 214

Having visited this informative and enjoyable site numerous times over the past year I decided it's time to join. I've added my 110, 212 and 318 to the registry. All have been acquired within the past year and are in original but tired condition. With the help found here I hope to restore all three over time. Thanks for such a great website!

Mark, not on a 200 series, but on a late 112. I had a 37 until this year, went to a 37A.

Very similar except the 37 uses a twisted belt, the 37A doesn't use the twist. I had a lot of trouble with the 37 throwing the belt when I went across a 'swag' in my drive. No problems at all with the 37A, even using the weathered belt that was on it when I bought it.

BTW, I have the cab on now! ~~ Lowell

Mark,
The model 37 snow thrower was made for two years 1968-69,then replaced with the model 37A. The belts are routed differently and also the chain. Here is a thread showing the belt routing on both the 37 and 37A.

It happens often with new found authority. I call it the "Wyatt Earp syndrome". Realizing they have the power they have to exercise it to convince everyone how important they are. It's a mind game thing - once they realize no one is impressed - and how petty it makes them look they usually back off. Of course some are so self impressed they are unable to realize.

;-)

James,

You need to remove all 8 bolts on the shaft. I just went through this a month or so ago, it actually was not too difficult. I just put a socket on the end and something like a screw driver to keep it from spinning.

Ok, so I got the radiator off I'm going to take it to the radaitor shop in the morn to have it cleaned. While I was removing the radiator I discovered that the fan belt is in really bad shape. My question is how do I get the drive shaft bolts out of the rubber housing I have fought with them ? Do I remove the four bolts or just the three that are connected to the dive shaft? Thanks for all the help James

Mike,
Sorry that I offended the Forum Gods. I was not selling, just trying to pass info along to other members. That is why I did not post pic and referenced the other post which was also removed. I will try posting in for sale section. I am aware of the rules just didn't realize it was getting this nit picky.

I made new spindles for my JD 300 and I think they turned out good. I had already bored out the axle and pressed in new bushings. A little paint and I should be good to go, no more sloppy steering.

Jame,
If the white stuff you see is a crust the coolant went beyond the boiling point from being to low or other possibilities. You can also also use an extended life coolant and get a DCA (Diesel Coolant Adative) which might save a little cash. You can also get test strips to test the DCA level in your existing coolant before you change it to see if it was a good coolant. If a coolant that was not for a diesel was put in it will also cause the white stuff.

Jame,
The 332 should be just like a car. As mentioned, drain and flush the radiator but I would recommend you refill with John Deere Cool-Gard II pre-mix. It contains additives that are specifically designed for diesel engines. I suspect the white stuff is foam from running the coolant low.

Jame – Yes, you should be able to see the coolant.

On every tractor I own I have torn them down to the frame and gone through everything including having the radiator on my 332 & 430 boiled out and pressure tested for leaks. I wasn’t sure how far you wanted to go with yours, so I just made a suggestion to get you started.

I would suggest you get Operators Manual OMM79602 & Technical Manual 1591for the 332. Good bedtime reading. The TM for the diesel engine is CTM3 if you want that one too.

So I should be able to see the coolant when I look in? I was thinking that the white stuff that is built might indicate that it needs to be cleaned out? I was thinking about taking it to a shop to get a ultrasonic cleaning done on it any advice? Thank agian James

Jame – I don’t know what the white stuff is, but this is what I would do. Drain the radiator and flush the system like you would a car or truck. Get a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and refill to about ½ inch from the top. Start up and run a few minutes and check the level again, you may have to repeat the last step a few times.

Good luck with your 332, great machines and the sound cool too.

OK I'm new to this. My question is I just purchased a John Deere 332 well today I opened the radiator cap and discovered that there is white stuff built up on the inside of the radiator this brings me to my next question how do I know if my radiator coolant is where it should be? When I look inside the radiator should I see coolant at the top? Thanks James

I have a resto thread going for my 212. I would like to get a tiller for it, but I can not read the listings to well in the archives. What tiller and what blower should I be looking for?

Getting old and going blind sucks. Well, not that old, but definitely can't see that well any more. Thanx for the help!

This followed me home Saturday; my first 430! Got the hood and the side panels in the truck; still need the grill and some other odd-and-end parts.

It may be a newer v-twin Command if its 22 HP. I would look into that as that might make the tractor worth a lot more if it has a newer replacement engine in it.

$900 is a great price regardless of the engine. Make sure to post pictures if you get it.

Ron if its a 22 hp someone has changed the motor. Original was 19.9 HP. A 400 is a great tractor but almost everything is unique to them and is not interchangeable with other models. 400s were last built in 1982 so I think you need to get more and better information on it as a lot of what you have is incorrect.
