Went on a little Deere hunting trip last night -- 3.5 hours round trip in the rain --and brought these home: 1965 110 manual lift round fender tractor, a 30 tiller and a fairly straight 42 blade with brass tag. The tractor serial number, 15563, places it as the 17th earliest 1965 on our registry. It needs lots of TLC but seems to be complete except for the PTO cover. Certainly not as clean an example as either of the two recent finds by Charlie Proctor and Adam Vaught, but worth dragging home in the dark and the wet. Adam -- this tractor came with the operator's manual OM-M40832 (SN 15001 to 40,000) and also the shop manual SM-2059. These manuals cover quite a bit of what you might need to know about the 110 from what I saw in my first browsing through them... I have never had a vintage Deere that was not a hydro, so I am sure I will learn quite a bit when I get around to this one.

Richard, Jd parts list two model ID codes that should work on a 400.The second set of numbers is the catalog they are covered in.Not sure about being able to purchase a new one or not.

I am considering purchasing a 400 that does not have a mowing deck. Can decks from other models be made to fit or do I need one from a 400? Can they be purchased new? |

This is my first post and I would just like to say Hi. I bought my first 318 about 3 months ago and got another one last week. The first one I had to drag out of the truck when I got it home it's not the best looking tractor in the world but I got it running and built a 3point hitch for it and I modified the mounting on the tiller attachment to work on the hitch. the second one I bought last week and it came with a front blade and I mounted it to the first one. the second one looks way better than the first one. From what I've seen on here so far there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here that I can learn from. Thanks, Bill |

Pete, the narrow rims for 6-12 tractor tires from a IH cub cadet will fit the rear of the 216 just fine. The narrow rims for cubs are much easier to find over the JD rims that were not as common. Most guys at plow days run 8.50 wide ag bar tread tires with no problems. The 8.50 or 6-12 size stay down in the furrow nicely and give good traction. Some use 10.50 wide rear tires with good results as well. I would just put some V-61 style ribbed tires on the front using the stock rims, this will give you good control in loose dirt, the shallow ribbed wheelbarrow tires are to soft and wont give good steering control. I am planning to run 10.50 wide true power ags and V-61's on my 214. Mike |

Here is what's on my mind. Hope I'm on the right site. I am planning to start growing about 2-3 acres of sweet corn this year to sell at a local market. I have a JD 50 horse utility and a JD 216 with a tiller. I have a moldboard plow for the 50 horse I can use to turn the ground and I can place the corn rows up to 40 inches wide so I was thinking about using the 216 with the tiller to cultivate between the rows. Since neither tractor is a high crop version, I can't straddle the corn row and I have no standard row cultivator anyway. My concern is the foot print of the 216 which has the std. 26 inch wide turf tires on the rear. Has anyone used wheel barrow tires on the front of the 216, which I suppose has a one inch spindle? Do you know if std five hole trailer wheels will fit on the back of the 216? This would narrow the width considerably so I could get my 30 inch JD tiller between the rows. Any thoughts are appreciated. |

Drug home another one today...but this one is a patio in disguise. It's a '69 110, and whole bunch of white on the underside. The green paint didn't stick to well either to the hood. You can see the orange poking thru. Came with non-patio blower and deck. Would have given up the attachments for the original seat!

Need some advice. not sure what forum to put this in since it involves a 112 and a 400. A friend of a friend has these rotting behind his garage under tarps. 112 manual lift, rear lift rod (missing hitch), cant see if it has deck, badly faded paint, damaged hood. He said the engine ran good when he parked it. It is 10* otuside so I didnt get to dig around under the tarps and piles of junk, but it appeared mostly complete. 400 with 60" deck. complete but the engine has the right bank cylinder head removed, intake mani removed, and carb removed. The guy said he never messed with the tractor, someone gave it to him like that. KQ532 dead and in need of rebuild/repower. The body looked solid. As it was colder than a _______, we didnt stay out there long and he told me to come back in the spring when we can root around some and get a better look. We also didnt talk price. If i can pick up one (or both) for practically a song, what kind of $ am I looking at as far as repairing the 400 engine? I have only dealt with the one-lung engines so far. |

Charlie, Congrats on the find. I was too late also as I got a canned response from the guy. He must of had a lot of people contact him. I don't know why people would tell him he sold it too cheap. Just jealous I guess. For that price and condition, I was willing to drive all the way from Illinois to get it. |

I've been looking for a #50 thrower for my 400 without success. Today I found a '46 snowthrower-400' that the PO claimed was on his 400. It fit using a 'quick hitch adapter' I was unable to figure out how to make this combination work on my 400. After searching the JD site, I found that the hitch kit he sold me are front pto mounting parts for a 430. The thrower I bought is a M00062X100096 also on the tag it says 46 snowthrower-400. Can anyone tell me just what this thrower is supposed to fit onto. |

Hey Guys I just have to show off my newest deere. I have always wanted a RF and when I saw this 65 I just had to get it. It looks completely original and doesn't appear to be missing any parts. I even got a bunch of decals, carb kit, and various other items the PO had bought for his planned resto. I know the carb is in need of a rebuild but his baby runs and sounds really solid! I'm super pumped about this tractor! Adam

Hi guys, I made it home safely from my trip to DC. I did manage to meet up with a couple WFM members on the trip. I got some interesting photos too. I'll post them in my photobucket album when I get time. I spent the night last night at the plow Wizzard's place in Ohio and was treated to a great home raised & evening meal and breakfast! Sure beat staying in a motel! I enjoyed seeing his latest 430 project which will be amazing I bet. Also enjoyed meeting his dog a German Shepard named Sarge! |

Has anyone successfully used/modified a zero turn mower suspension seat platform? They are expensive also, but should be more plentiful... Looks like they only have about one inch of total travel, but appear to be adjustable for operator weight so they don't "bottom out"
The other possible alternative is a bit unsightly in my way of thinking, but under $100 at Surplus Sales. It too would most likely need some modification to work on an open frame 300/400 series Deere garden tractor:

I bought that one in the picture from a dealer out east new in box 2 years ago...along with another one that was on the same shelf. Even was able to work a better deal since I bought both. I had a dealer print off all ones showing up in the USA, which was about 25 dealers long. Called about 15 before I found one that actually had one, turned out to have 2. Only found 1 more and a buddy of mine bought it. You see them on ebay ocasionally. That or put a wanted add on WFM. |

James, The suspension seat assembly is NLA from Deere, here is what comes up when you try to add one to the JDParts web site shopping cart: The part AM105074 is no longer available. Contact your local John Deere dealer for other options. They occasionally show up used, but are getting pretty hard to find, and tend to be expensive. If you find two -- let me know about the other one as I am looking for one as well. Chuck |

Matt, If its a later sleeve hitch with two lift rod tabs on it it will work but will need a different lift rod. The early ones can have another tab welded on to make them work.
Thats a picture of the hitch on a 317 and of the two different tabs. |

Hey John, If you have time when you go through Columbus, OH. the Farm Power Show is going on at the Ohio Expo Center [State Fair Grounds] through Sunday. Mostly modern farm technology. I'll be going down Sat. Or Sun. There's also an affiliated Farm Toy Show. Also there's a good sized John Deere Dealership just north of the Plain City Exit [Rt.42] just west of Columbus [JD Equipment]. It's the place with the square fender mounted to a post for their mailbox. I'll keep an eye out for you when I'm in the I-70 area. Have a safe trip! Joe |

Charlie, That looks like a pretty nice little RF. Well Guys, I'm in DC this morning! A WFM member from Goldsboro, NC is coming up to pick up the FD for his 332 from me. I drove out here (1050 miles just ahead of most of the storm that came thru my route. It was a nightmare from Wheeling, WV to the Penn Turnpike, then they got things salted down and it wasn't too bad. Jim Dimmerling maybe saw me passing thru OH... I brought out a different car for my daughter who is now teaching in Silver Spring, MD. I'm driving my Red GMC pulling me Featherlite trailer with a Green Ford Taurus on the way home today. Say hi if you see me! I'm sure I was very close to lots of WFM members places as I'm traveling mostly I-70 & I-74 to & from Iowa. Breakfast is ready so all for now... |

Well you know that old saying, All's well that ends well! I got a call tonight from the guy and he had second thoughts and since he accepted my offer last night and thought about it. He decided that he would be a stand up guy and follow through with the deal. So as it stands right now, I'll be picking the little guy up Saturday after all. I think David J's Karma vibs musta found their way to him. LOL
And yes I know I'm posting on the wrong forum board, but what do ya expect out of a Cub Cadet guy!
