Mike Duwe

I had some starter weights shipped to me in large flat rate boxes.
They weigh 72 pounds but I guess they did not weigh them.
My boxes were destroyed too.

For clarification on the flat rate boxes....

There is a 70 lb limit so "if it fits it ships" is not always true.

You would probably have to fill the box with lead to get 70 lbs in it, or like the post man said...gold.

At 42 lbs each, the suitcase weights were a little over 1/2 the limit.

They must not be too mad because there was a sealed envelop with a letter appoligizing since the boxes were beat up...

Don Lynch – Man that's a lot of rubber on the back of that 300 frame!!! Not too bad for a FREE tractor. I think WFM members alone handily boost the bottom line of Carlisle Tire and Wheel Co. every year.

JRL – Funny I didn't notice this in any of your other pulling pictures before, but I see you still have the mower deck on while you where pulling at Little G. I know why you did it, for the weight, but it looks somewhat funny to me since I'm not used to seeing someone in a pulling competition with a mower deck still attached. You can take the tractor home unload it from the trailer and head straight to mowing the lawn.

kelley myers – Very nice 210. I like your front bumper.

andy fisher – Nice work on your swinging drawbar! I believe I mentioned to you a little while back you'll really like it I have no doubt about that. Not only will it allow you to keep your tractor out of the fence while aerating but it moves whatever you're pulling further away from your tractor allowing you to make sharper turns as well. I utilize the swing feature on my drawbar a lot to position my chem. sprayer closer to the edge of irrigation ditches I need to spray. I don't use the stock hitch plate that came with the 140 any more and not too sure I ever will.

Mike Duwe – That's great. As Andy said the USPS many revisit their Flat Rate business model after your shipment. I can almost hear what the carrier of those boxes is saying to his supper right now.

Does anyone know what brand tractor these weights are from. Got 10 of them at an auction today. They weigh 70lbs, according to the bathroom scale.

They have NTK 0131 cast in them, but a Google search didn't come up with anything.

I'm going to put them on my 2440, just have to make a new bracket.

Thanks, Bill.

Sorry, I thought I hit the preview button to see if my picture uploaded..I meant to say a little more..

This was cut with a scroll saw out of 1/8" thick birch plywood..I forget now but I think it had 98 holes drilled into it that had to be cut out..

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Gang,
Well I'm so sick of this white stuff. I plow and buck back drifts all night and then come home to dig my family out. I currently run 4 link V-Bar chains on my 400 with 26x12x12 TruPowers, but they are pretty old, I keep having to make repairs every time I plow, so it's time for a new set of chains. I'm going to stick with the V-Bar Chains and was going to get the 2 link V-Bars, but I was wondering if anyone has used the Diamond Pattern V-Bars ? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I still need to post pic's of my Vanguard motor swap. I had to fab a few things, but all in all I am very pleased with the new power under the hood.
Thanks,
Preston

Mike D, i think the postal service is going to rethink their "if it fits, it ships" policy pretty soon......

i had some wheel weights shipped the same way, my mailman glared at me for a month after that.

Came home to this pile of boxes:

Inside:

No more swapping 6 weights from the 3pt on the snowblower tractor to the loader tractor.

Looks good Don L.
I did some maintenance on my 317 that I've been using to move snow this winter. Removed the fenderdeck and engine side panels for servicing.
18HP Kohler Command powered 317SE
You can see how I raised the rear of the fenderdeck 1 inch with the square tubing. It's pretty easy and didn't require anything else.

JRL John,
I will stay with the 16 hp. As it turned out the 300 has a 1997 JD short block and it runs real well. I had the best mech. in my area ( Mike Schiefelbein ) overhaul the carb because it needed it, but it's a strong runner.
This tractor came from my older brother, he was given the 300 at a garage sale with deck and snow blower...... FREE, I kid you not. This is a picture taken when I brought her home.

A few weeks ago our local Deere had a bunch of manuals for sale for $5.00 each. Looked through them and found this 110 112 manual for the round fender tractor printed in 1968 that looks like no one ever picked it up. I already had a copy of this manual but figured for five bucks I couldn't let it get thrown away.

got to finally take a crack at making a swinging drawbar today.....
i've been wanting to do this for quite some time since i'm getting tired of trying to get the tractor close to my various fences around my and my friend's properties
while towing the aerator and spreader.

thanks much to Kenneth Dortch for letting me copy a few if his gallery pics. he bolted his together but i chose to weld mine, mainly because i enjoy welding much more than running a drill press.....

i still need to make and attach two latch pins, then sandblast and paint

enjoy the pics
later
andy

Don, I never thought about the fingers part. I often grab my fender deck there when going on hills or making fast turns. That would really hurt if I caught them under there ! I guess the 300 would be easy to make spacers for unlike a 140 where you have the dipstick to contend with.........Ed.

Edward, The tires are 26x12x12 TruPowers. They fit but to be safe ( added clearance for the fingers ) the deck will need spacers. Hopefully I will complete the project this summer in time for the Montrose, MN plow days. My time right now is spent mostly looking for work ... Have a great day. Don

Ok, check out the weight box my neighbor and I made from a frame of a beat-up 112 with a seized motor that I parted out. All we did was cut the frame with a sawz-all and spin it upside down. Then straighten the "c-bend" in it on the top of the right rail (which went the wrong way)and then put a piece of thick plywood on the bottom for a floor. You can see the plywood if you look close. Then we had to drill holes to utilize the holes in the frame to bolt it to !
Now we even have a hitch at the correct height for towing a trailer (not cart) and for hooking a tow rope to if someone gets stuck !
How do you like my idea ?.........Ed.

Roy,
Before you give that snow away for free you may want to contact the IOC up in Vancouver or Whistler...they may need it yet with over a week of Olympics left. If you don't want to send it west could you send it up to the Grayling (Michigan) area. Headed up that way tonight for some weekend fun on the trails and I here some of the trails up there are sheets of ice which is dangerous in the corners for those of us who do not use aggressive carbides.

I'm going to try this again to make it my 300th post.
Since this is my 300th post I wanted to post a picture of my 300 John Deere project. I have seen some pictures of completed 300s and hopefully I can make mine look as nice.

To anybody that reads this, have a great day.
Don

Hey guys thanks for the welcome. I'm still a couple weeks from closing on the house and then have to move, so not quite ready for the tractor, but soon.

WELCOME Bill. For the area you've described, and if you're mechanically inclined, I'd say buy a John Deere 140 H3 from the 1970-1974 era. The hydraulics make adding a snow blower ideal. The 14 horse power will easily handle your boat (with either a 3-point or integral hitch). They generally handle a 48 inch mower deck. Lots of power and adaptability. Check out the For Sale Classifieds here on the forum ...Elliott

First post:
Need help to figure out what to buy. Have new house, small lot big driveway with lots of snow to move, Northern IL, and slightly sloped driveway that I need to move boat and utility trailers in and out of, much easier with tractor than car. Due to small yard don't need huge deck nor want to spend tons of bucks. Ideas?

Thanks :-)

Picture of my JD 110 repowered with a 16hp Briggs V-Twin. With 2x the power of the K181, can't find enough snow to choke it yet.
