Carl, I think it should work for a short term fix. Maybe cover it with some duct tape if it tries to vibrate off. Any chance there is a nearby auto parts store or Wall-Mart where you can get one of those replacement battery clamps that you put on the end of the existing cable. |

Hi, I was using my 318 today and the positive battery clamp cracked 90 degrees from the cable connection (if the cable connection is at 9 and the clamp bolt is at 12). As luck would have it, we may be getting a storm on Thursday that will need me to plow the drive. Am I crazy for thinking of taking a small c-clamp to squeeze the battery clamp at the 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock position to get me through the storm. No time to get to the store for a new cable, pull the engine, and replace the current. The hood is off, so I can watch the connection and there is nothing that should hit the clamp for a possible short. Thanks Carl |

Ok Guys, I'm looking at getting a Tilt dump MSC. Problem is it was originaly set up for a single pully PTO. I have a 2000 rpm PTO. I have also located the drive parts that will work with my PTO. My question is Will I have to do any other alterations to the MSC? ie Shafts, shives... Shaner |

I'm thinking of buying a 140. I've found what appears to be a H1. Since I don't relish the thought of getting off the tractor to adjust the blade angle, is it a big deal to convert to a H3? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Chuck |

Hey Gang, Here is the 23hp Vanguard I re-powered my '81 400 with back in November. I'm working on a full write-up on all of the changes I had to make to the Kit SEW sent with it and the changes I made to make it work and look the way I wanted it. You can see a few of the changes in some of the pic's but I will go into full detail in the Restoration/Repair Forum. After working out the bugs, I am very pleased with Vanguard. Later, Preston

Can you buy the gasket in the valve portion of the sediment bowl on a 65 110? Is it made from cork? Mine was leaking and when I disassembled it the gasket just crumbled so I threw it away. Wish I wouldn't have now since I can't seem to find one. The replacement sediment bowls look so cheap, I'd rather fix this one. Adam |

Simple question for you experts. Where does this piece of strap go? Hanging down on the left rear 1988 420 with a 3 point and MCS bracket. Looks like it would reach the lower bolt where the lift arm hooks to the 3 point arm? Thanks!

AJ, I was going to suggest a used set also. You could buy a whole rear end brakes and all, maybe a tractor for the price of 4 brake shoes! For the idea on trailer with seats for hauling your children or grand kids around check out what Little G did with the barrels. You can probably see it in the gallery photos. I'll look if I don't loose my internet connection too soon. |

Well, no ice cream runs, but when I was tractor shopping, the criteria were: cost, serviceability, and build quality, but primarily cold starting and top speed, as pulling the #74 sled attachment is where half my seat time is. That's 4 sleds, 7 screaming hot cocoa junkies. |

I have done that with my daughter also. from the time she was tiny. Her first 2 syllable word was John Deere. I would ask her if she wanted to go for a ride. Then I would ask her "can you say JOHN DEERE?" That is so much fun. I also use it to go hallowing with a wagon. Reminds me. I have to build a better wagon this summer with seats on it. Any ideas out there? |

Thanks for the replies guys. Kenneth I am going to look for a used set,I have a line on a set if it works out.The metal back is bent in the edges.I'm not sure if they can be relined. A guy told me of a local machine shop that does it for $9.00 per shoe.I will have to remove them again and see if the back is usable or not. AJ |

AJ Cannon - Regarding your 140 brake shoes. Is the metal sub structure of the shoe itself broken down and unusable? If not couldn't you just reline the shoes with brake liner from McMaster Carr?

Kent That is exactly what I mean. Thank goodness for flat rate shipping. I had a great day today. My wife and I take our 2 youngest out separately on occasion so they get special time and attention. Maddie went with my Wife and Sophie stayed with me. I offered to take Sophie anywhere she wanted, shopping at the mall, going to build a bear, whatever. She CHOSE to stay home and go for a tractor ride on the 430 and spend some time on "Her" 140. It was a beautiful day here so we went out cruising with the 430 and to the corner store for some ice cream. Then we came back and pressure washed the 140 project. It was a great day and Sophie did not regret her decision at all. She had fun. Check out the picture with the old style yellow hydro filter. When we pushed out the 140 I heard a screeching sound on left rear. I knew the problem but to confirm it I took off the wheel and sure enough the brakes shoes have fallen apart. Can't they make shoes that last longer than 37 years for crying out loud. AJ

Joe Forster - Yes, indeed that is a nice lookin' 322. There's one of (not sure what to call it) over accessorized and over priced 430s on eBay again. One item I notice that stood out to me was his added attached front head lights. If I were gonna put additional head lights on this style tractor I think I would give this idea some consideration. If you know me I don't drill holes in the factory sheet metal for my own personal reasons, but this is a pretty good use of a light fixture I must admit.

I had a great day at the Marion County (Ohio) Annual Farmers Consignment auction today. I brought this home with me. I didn't need it but the price was right. I'd say how much but you'd all get mad at me!
Serial number says it's a 1990 model and there are 1225 hours on the meter. It runs very smooth with no creep in the hydro and the 50" deck is in great shape. A new seat and a wax job and it'll be good to go! Joe |
