Lucas, the wiz is a Wizard brand mower. William & Ken, welcome to WFM! William, if no one answers here, post your question in the resto & repair forum under "Hydro drive tractors" Ken, can you get the #'s off the tiller? Also, a picture of the pulley would probably help. Post it in resto & repair under "gear drive tractors". As always, we love photos here. |

Good afternoon, morning, evening & or night to all. LOVVL. I have gained ownership of a JD 400. It has a sleeve hitch which is fine though the ears on the rockshaft have aparently broken off and I cannot install a top link for it. That's all easy fixes however and just a quick descript. I do have a larger issue that puzzles me. The steering. When I first got it, the steering was stiff and I only drove the unit a little and just prior to stopping, the right hand turns had became quite pleasant however the left hand turns were all but impossible. Does that sound like the steering control valve to any of you? Last part of this post, the filters haven't been changed yet. I didn't have the info on them and I drive over the road and haven't been back home since I found the filter info online. The clear sight tube that I have seen on different pictures is absent on mine. It has a simple black line and you cannot see the fluid. How do you check the fluid on this unit, and also how do you fill it if it is indeed low. Of course I will change the filters before anything I do further. I do not know it's history neither recent nor longer past. Thank You for any ofference of synaptic thinking that can help my feeble matterless grey blob figure this out. |

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ken and I'm new to this site and to John Deere's as well. I was given a John Deere tractor with mower, blade and tiller because a teenager tried to jump a ditch and pulled the tie rod end out of the bar. I was able to fix the problem by cutting a washer in half and then slipped the 2 halves over the tie rod and then welding the washers onto the bar. This took about 15 minutes and it works great. After doing some searches, it appears that this is a 1969 model 112 with a Kohler 10hp K241AS. The tag says it is a Type TO652 Serial number 150935. The mower works great and the Model 42 blade was very easy to attach, but I am at a loss as to which tiller I have, how to hook it up and I'm not even sure if I have all of the parts. How can I tell which tiller I have and how to attach it? There was a John Deere green pulley assembly laying in a scrap pile. Not sure if it is part of the tiller or not, but I have it. Thank you, in advance, for any help you can give. Ken |

George thanks for the offer ... I have a 140 to plow with but I also have a 3ph off a Massey 1450 and they are very similar to a 400 3ph which has lift arms which attach to the axle housings. So might have the 400 plowing also.... and I have a 3ph Brinly. Chuck thanks for the advice .... Next attachments will be better .... was just happy to finally get it done .... been trying for a year now !!! |

Will, Nice find on the 400, and great price! I have been using the Firefox browser lately and have had no issues with posting pictures here. I noticed that your center picture of the 400 was 55 kB in size, even though its resolution is a smallish 192 x 144 pixels. The other two are only slightly smaller file sizes at 52 and 49 kB, with the same pixel dimensions. You can probably use your camera's PC resident software (disc that came with your camera) to adjust the quality of the compression to yield a larger sized image that still meets the posting requirements here regarding file size. Send me a PM if you want some more discussion on this... Chuck |

I was using Mozille firefox and so went to Internet Explorer and voila .... I actually uploaded these pics (which I overdone when resizing) .... I am fairly computer challenged and this resizing and uploading was quite a challenge for me.... but I got er done |

John F, Thanks for the condolences. Just when I got all the mods done to. Looked really sharp. She is a wiz in a JD suit. She didn't know she was a wiz. Mike Drew, I really appreciate the offer. We were dead nuts center in the middle of this storm. I buried a yard stick in back yard. I have a fellow WFM er who is selling me a 33 blower. This was blower snow. A blade would not have cut it unless you were plowing all night long. My neighbors orange machine got a hole in it's seat from my rear end today. My 212 would have pushed this stuff though. She pushed a lot of snow in Ohio. |

Did they make a r/f 122 with a kohler engin. The hydro lift on the 110s' was optional if you find a hydro lift can you put it on a 110 that doesent have one. |

Mark, A 420 with a blown motor, prolly ain't gonna help with this snowfall! If you were closer I'd loan you something, just so you wouldn't have to use the cub. Never thought I'd see a Wiz of Oz reference on here. I think John F. is the man behind the curtain. |

Lucas the only thing on a 1965 110 that is fiberglass is the hood. The other fiberglass parts were used only on 1963s and maybe a few very early 1964s. Roger |

Gary P,,,, I am working on it.. I think my neighbor is going spring loose and let me get his 420 from him. (blown Motor) 3 point hitch, rear pto. JD weight box, FEL, wheel weights all around, 2 suit case weights. He came over today and handed me the key to his Kubota, said if I needed it to go ahead and use it. Then a hour later he drives over this old Cub model 72 and says "You can play with this for awhile if you need." His missus is telling him to let the 420 travel across the street too. Crossing my fingers. Ya Know.... |

The trans axle took a dump. I guess it wasn't made to push 10 inches of wet snow. I bought a used transaxle from flea bay. I was going to post the pics of the torn up innards, but the powers that be might not like a non Deere Post, Then again, no body said anything so far. I have to fix the Wiz.. Wifes orders! she loves that little mower. Gotta find a smaller Deere for her. 212 scares her. |

Lucas, if you are only looking for a look alike. you can paint one white and the hood the color you want. You can paint the seat with vinyl paint to match the hood, would make a great looking copy of a patio. |

Lucas you can fake a patio in 1969 but not in 1970/71 as the serial numbers are different those two years. In 1969 the serial numbers are the same. Before you decide to try to fake one check the costs of doing so. The hard to find parts a very expensive to buy and very hard to find The seats often sell in the $500 to $1000+ range and the hoods are not any cheaper. Roger |

Why do I see so many pictures of three point hitch cross chains loose? When I have my suitcase weights on or hitched to the trailer to move it around, I immediately notice if there is any slack in the cross chains but I see so many others with them just hanging there. |

Lucas - The 120 and 140 were only hydrostatic drive. The headlights / front panel were the same on all tractors from 1968 to 1974. some just had a blank panel instead of the round lights. The 110 has plenty of power for a tiller or plow. Granted, it won't cut through with the ease of a larger tractor such as a 14 or 16 horse, but many people use the 110s for those tasks. |

Frank do some looking around here but fairly recently one of the members posted pictures of a two wheel log hauler that will do exactly what you want to do and put less load on your tractor. Since I CRS i have forgotten the correct name for it but the trailer drags the logs out of the woods easily using a winch to partially lift the log. Roger |

The 420/430 tractors have a 16" (aprox) wide front frame. The 140-332 tractors had a 13.5 (aprox) front frame. As long as your find a blade that is hydraulic and fits the width of your 314, it should work. |

John, Good eyes. A new solid firewall is on my project list. At the time of the pic's the right side tin had no problems with clearance, but the left side, had some clearance problems. The motor had to be raised in the front a little over 1" to align the crank pulley with the PTO Drive Pulley. Which threw the left side exhaust tip off. I had to cut the muffler pipe, and rotate the tip so it would have the needed clearance. Also if you notice I ran the Throttle and choke cables down the left side, instead of all the way around the motor in front of the muffler like SEW would like you to do. Since I ran them down the left side the radius of the bend that I needed to keep the cable operational allowed the cable to rub the side panel. If you notice I had enough Wescon Poly-lined Conduit to make a new throttle cable(using my old throttle lever), but didn't have enough for the choke cable. I have since made a new choke cable and have no more clearance issues. The Poly-lined conduit allows a much tighter radius and still have super smooth operation for those of you who didn't know. I removed what was left of my belly screen years ago, and with the tin off, it was a ton easier blowing the mulched up leaves back out of the engine compartment. I have since then also fabbed up a complete belly screen, so clean-up will be much easier next fall. |

Kelley, if it is all there, and the price is right by all means get it. Just about anything can be fixed. |
