Jason Thanks for your info that is vary good news. So there would be less of these 69 color coded 140'S than any 140 patio. Did J D do this to the 110 112 and the 120 or just the 140? I doubt if anyone knows how many of them were coded. I saw on the register other 69's that were white coded and painted white but not many. Thanks Bob |

bob, according to what i like to refer to as my j.d 140 bible, the last serial number of 1969 is 22,400. i think that j.d did type code the end of the 69 140's. |

Adam V, Our grounds dept uses quite a few foam filled tires to reduce the number of flats. The garage cuts the tires in half with a saw to get them off the rim, it is a bit of work. For the small tires on easy to get rims they replace the tire and rim, when you figure in the cost of labor it is cheaper to replace everything. Running foam filled tires on pavement wears them out quickly. |

Tom M., Part # AM36001 is listed as the rear hydro kit on JDParts.com It's item 38.
The part # you listed, AM35852 does come back on file, so I'm not sure what you bought. |

I got an original rear hydraulic kit Part AM35852 yesterday for my 1968 140 H3. The kit is for the 140/300 series as it includes the 300 series mounting plate, it says it requires Part AM36001 to be installed on a 140, could someone please tell me what AM36001 would have included? Thanks -Tom |

Adam V, you can cut the tires off with a utility knife using soapy water for lube. I don't think the foam sticks to the tire or rim but I've never had to deal with that, yet. As far as your throttle concern, if the manual says to run it full bore why do you feel compelled to question that? Mull this over for a while, WOT on these engines is 34-3600 RPM. Used to be, in the days before overdrive transmissions in almost every car and light truck, that cruise RPM was almost universally in the low 3,000 RPM range at 65 MPH. My '69 muscle car turned 3200 at 70 with 3.23 rear gears. If it had run 3.73 the cruise RPM would have been almost 3700. Virtually all small engines are recommended to run at the governed maximum, usually 3600, when under load. Generators are a good example, if they don't have an auto-idle they live at WOT. I don't consider pulling a cart or other light chores as being "under load", so I throttle down for those applications. A mower deck loads the engine any time the PTO is engaged just from the air the blades has to move. A snowblower, especially a 2-stage does the same. I tiller in the ground REALLY loads the engine. |

ADAM V = i would sawsall the tire off then try a sharp kitchen nife with some oil as lube. cut the fome straight down towards the hub then do it agian directly on the other side then pull the two pieces of foam off. that might work out for you |

How difficult is it to remove the foam from the rims of foam filled tires? My 430 front tires are foam filled and the sidewalls are shot. I would like to replace the tires and keep these rims. Adam |

So the 140 has a type of T0584 that is a H3 White as far as I can tell by J D and the serial # of 022120 is a 1969 as far as I can tell. What are the chances of that. Could they at JD started coding some of the last 140 69 patio tractors white before they started the 70's patio run Bob 765 426 0772 |

Thanks Stephen, that is my basic understanding. I still talk to a lot of guys who do not run their engines at full throttle while mowing, I just needed some conformation. What about pulling a cart ect? Adam |

Adam, there are two reasons for using WOT while mowing. The first is the engine oiling and cooling, and that is important with the one-cylinder splash-lube engines. The second reason is to keep the blade speed up so the debris will be thrown/blown out the discharge chute. A more aggressive blade might make up for some of that but momentum is important. On an engine with pressurized lubrication it would not be as critical for the engine to be at WOT. |

This is a general question concerning all JD garden tractors, while mowing, do you run your engines full throttle? I understand that the one lunger engines without pressurized lubrication will get increased protection running full throttle. Does this mean that while pulling a cart or doing some blade work that you shouldn't run the engine at a lower RPM? I have read a few posts that talk about the incredible lugging ability of the 318 engines, does this mean that you are not hurting the engine by running it at a lower RPM. What about my 430, do you think that while mowing I should run the engine at full throttle? The owners manual says to. Thoughts.... Adam |

I went to TSC today to pick up some oil and left with a new yellow seat for a 400, 15 lbs of assorted bolts and nuts, a nifty red draw pin and a Cat 0 top link. After I got in my truck I realized I hadn't bought the oil and had to go back for it. This is the exact same seat as I bought today. It's on another 400 I have. There are a lot fancier styles available but I like these. They're comfy and durable and only $75.

This might be a stupid question, but how do I determine what size mower deck I have? I was told it was a 46" when I bought it, but I just want to be sure it's not 48". It looks to me like the deck belt is slightly too long or stretched and the idler is not putting sufficient tension on it. If I go to get a new belt I want to make sure I get the right one, IF there is a difference in the belt size... Scott |

Hello All Mark I can send everyone pictures just ask, but I can't get them on WFM. On March the 7th it was listed on WFM for sale. Tom the serial # is 22120 there is no mistake it was white from the factory. Yes the tractor came from Momence Il. It also has behind the wheels where the brush missed it some grease pencil #'s on the paint from the factory. I will put that in a picture Monday if anyone wants that. Bob |

I was south of Columbus Ohio today on Rt33 and when I cleaned my rear window this is what I found.
I changed lanes and there it was again
Yea, I went Deere hunting today. Found a nice original 1986 318 with low hours. The tail lights & Hydro port caps are intact. It is missing the engine (was pulled by PO today). I didn't get a deck either.

JRL I looked at the #'s again and they are just what I said they are. No there are no mistakes. The 140s serials end at 22400 and mine is a 22120 so it would be one of the last 1969's made wouldn't it? The white paint under the fancy green brush paint job is pretty good. Wheels are perfect on the inside. Frame is great inside and behind the wheels. It is a patio. I and the serial # is for a 69 140 isn't it? Bob |

Bob, I coldn't get your SN 131282 to work either for the 112 patio, but I changed the 3 to an 8 (181282) and this is what I got. Here is the information about the Tractor T0658181282M Model: 112 Typecode: T0658 Serial Number: 181282 Model Year: 1970 Engine Model and Size: K241 Kohler 10HP Lift Type: Hydraulic Paint: White Manufactured Location: Horicon, WI Check to see if the 3 is really an 8. ------------------------------- On the 14o something is incorrect there too as the serial numbers don't go that high on 140s. Here is one in the registry I found that may be close to what you have. 140 1969 T0583 022141 K321 Kohler 14HP White Maybe the first number in your sn is 0 instead of 1? also note the T0583 instead of the T0584

I have a 69 140 patio tractor that has a white coded type on the vin tag. The tag reads Type T0584 and the vin is 122120M I have been told that this is a rare tractor, made at the end of the 69 run and was a patio tractor that did get a type code of white just like the 70 and 71 patio 140's. When you look it up in the service manuel it also tells you it is a white 1969 tractor. Anyone have some helpful information for me. Bob 765 426 0772 |

this is off topic but I have been doing some searching on the internet with no luck. There is a craftsman FF/24 near me. It has a 3 point, rear PTO and FEL. Is there any place I can find more info on this model? I read they were built to compete with the Deere 400, and about the same size. Does anyone what RPM the rear PTO is? Does it have power steering? any info would be great. thanks Jim |

I wasn't sure which way to mount the bottom pivots, up or down and the picture cleared that up for me (up). The directions they send are text-only. It would be nice if they had a diagram, but the rest is pretty straightforward. Scott |

Dennis Stark – Since it doesn't seem like anyone really wanted to answer your question regarding the link you provided and comment I'll make an attempt. I'll start out by saying any type of tire for whatever purpose or application i.e. truck, car, tractor etc. are like shoes it's all about personal preference and you'll get a million an one reasons why you should buy this tire over that tire. The tire shown in your link resembles what Carlisle Tires manufactured which where called Super Lugs. I think, if I understand correctly, Carlisle Tires no longer manufactures the Super Lug tire design in a 23 x 850, 1050, - 12 sizes? Knowing little about the manufacture Nanco the price seems to be fair now the question becomes is the tire of quality construction. As for the lug design; I never cared for the Super Lug design like those in the link you provided because the lugs are too far apart which for me would make for a rough ride even on semi soft terrain. Moreover, the design never really appealed to me – the bars are spaced too far apart to really make the tire look esthetically correct. I can sure understand where you're coming from by asking such a question but in the end the decision to purchase or not is yours.
