I have a question on 200 series frames. I have a thread going over in the restoration section on my 216. Today I found out that the frame is damaged beyond what I want to try and fix. I am getting a 210 this weekend that is a 1975. My 216 is a 1979, serial number above 95000. Will the frames swap out without much trouble or do I need to find a frame closer to my serial number? I have a friend with a couple of other 200 series tractors that might work. Any help is appreciated. Mike |

Thanks for all the comments. LOL Jerry! One person on the forum to blame for all this is Army He was the one that responded to a local add about two years ago that I had posted which led me to this great site and subsequently to all those tractors!! We have met several great people along the way and I'd have to say, it was great fun! Scott |

Steve, Yes you can plow with the FEL installed. Not very convenient or practical but I have seen it done. |

JRL, Nice Tractor/Tiller setup and your place looks beautiful! I hope to set up one of my tractors with a tiller one day. Also very nice dirt. Looks much better than my Missouri clay, although I have improved it a lot over the last 14 years. Adam |

John Riggins, The reason the fluid goes over the top is that the pump is not running to return the fluid fast enough to the other side of the two way cylinders. The Johnson Loader owners manual cautions us about that happening. you need to have the engine running at least half throttle to prevent an overflow of the tank when lowering the loader unless you are low on fluid. Hope this helps. |

I do have one issue with my #44 loader. When I shut the engine off and drop the loader the fluid backs up and comes out of the top cap where you would add fluid.Any ideas why this happens.... |

Today while I had my 30 hyd. tiller mounted on my 322, I decided to see if it would fit in "The Cage". In order to haul tractor and the tiller mounted up in my 5X8 trailer and get the ramp closed up, I had to put a set of car ramps in the front of the trailer, back the unit into the trailer and as the rear tires climbed the ramps it also raised the tiller above the front stop of the trailer. Result: tractor rear sits on car ramps, tiller over hangs but rests on the front rail, and the gate closes to keep unit in the trailer. Of course a good strap job keeps everything from moving around. I just needed to see IF I could haul the package IF I wanted to. Where there is a will, there is a way.

I filled my tires with fluid, but only up to the valve stem when the stem is at the top of rotation. I deflate my tires to put chains on, then reinflate for snow blowing and that way the chains are tight and do not need any rubber bands holding them on - real slick. I use a weight bucket with 6 cast iron ingots for back weight with the blower and the #44 loader. This way I can remove the weight bucket when mowing. I use the #44 loader for front weight when tilling since the bucket can push/pull me out of soft spots. |

Perhaps I'm not looking close enough but is there a trick at removing the knobs sticking thru the rear fender deck (right name?) on a 317? I think the two are the knob to allow moving the tractor and the height adjuster for the deck. Trying to remove that part to clean everything up, got a new to me 317 that's really dirty but other than a few wiring issues seems to be in decent shape. Bill H. |

Had 10 yards of topsoil dumped on the garden spot yesterday. Tired of my garden flooding out. Whole family got out and help spread the dirt before the rain hit. Spread most of it by hand, shovel, and wheelbarrow and then started having fun. My son driving my 1966 110 with tiller to break up the clods and help spread and level the dirt. Mike

SUPER THATCHER I had 2 pull type thatchers on wheels. I wanted to be able to thatch and vacuum at the same time. So I took off all the wheels and hitches, then I bolted the 2 together with top and bottom plates. Then I made some brackets to attach to the loader on my 455. Now I have a 90" thatcher. Works nice on the loader boom, no need for gauge wheels. Al Zimmerman

I have a '72 140 H1 s/n above 30,000...when I press the single brake pedal on the left, the pedal is supposed to move the hydro control lever to neutral, but mine actually moves it too far and back into reverse. Is there an adjustment to this under the tractor somewhere for this? |

mike and john those are both sweet rides you have there. kenneth, i have tilled my garden with my 140 with wheel weights and also without. i didn't notice and difference. i take my weights off in the summer time when i'm done with the snow blade, but one time i just left them on there. when i till with out them, i just let the tiller do its thing and not try to pull it like my single bottom plow. |

Wow! Log in and see John Riggins had posted a photo of my 430 w/loader. Besides those weights on the wheels, I have a 250 pound weight that I mount on the three point. Now, for the rest of the story. I installed the extra wheel weight just so I could move some very heavy boulders with the loader. Really, they DO stick out just far enough to kind of be a pain in the rear, IMHO. Like MikeG stated, I'll be loading these tires up soon and removing the outer weight. Paul |

John – I use wheel weights, the tires are loaded and I reversed the rims for a wider stance for stability. I have an additional eight suitcase weights hanging on the back. With a full bucket of dirt or gravel I have no problem with traction. Just MO. I have had this setup for 3-4 years and it is a real back saver.

John...Why not just fill the rear tires with fluid, and add some wheel weights or a rear weight bracket and some suitcase weights. Fluid in the tires is pretty cost effective. The guy I bought my loader from just had fluid in the tires and the 75# concrete wheel weights, and used it like that for 25 years. |

John, You could use a set of both wheel weights plus a rear weight bracket and some suit case weights to get the most out of your loader. |

Ok...I have a question since we are talking about weights.Again I am a newbie and learning as I go along.I have the 420 set up with a #44 loader. No weights in the back yet.I know I am going to need them. What is the best way to go with wheel weights.Should I get a set of starter weights(M85343)or just go for the standard rear weight(M11028).Here is another question, can I go with both and is this recommended? What do you guys suggest?Thanks....Regards, John |

Tony Schroeder - Will rear weights help with tilling (I assume you mean wheel weights)? No. Added weight only contributes to soil compaction. Some use front counter weights (to offset 33 tiller weight) and the 33 tiller OM states: "When using rear mounted equipment such as the tiller or integral hitch tools, front end weights or front wheel weights should be used to stabilize steering." Well, I've not found steering to be an issue on my 140 while the 33 tiller was mounted so you're more than welcome to take what you will from the OM's statement. Some may say "By using rear wheel weights this reduces the likelihood the tiller will push the tractor forward". If that's the case then you're tilling too deep to start with. If your tiller is pushing your tractor then you should be making several passes over the ground you're tilling using shallower depths progressing to deeper depths on subsequent passes before you start tilling very deep. Hope this helps.
Kenneth |
