I may have messed up, I really want a 3 point system for my 140-H3, and in saying that I bid on a unit from the E-place. The unit states it is for the 316,318, etc etc..... can this be used on a 1973 140 ? will it need some refab work ? I thank you all for the tech help to come. I do not want to cancel my bid because I made the mistake, or did I ? I have perfect feedback and want to keep it that way. Scott Carmen Little Falls, NY 13365 315-794-1377 cell |

Does anyone have a belt diagram for a 1974 110 with a 47" deck? The belt on the deck is fine but am having trouble with the one that comes off the drive clutch in the front and goes underneath to the deck. I have the tightener screwed all the way in and it is still too loose. Thanks |

Will a power flow from a 420 60" deck work on a 318 50" deck? Does it need a different belt? I don't know how these mount. |

Scott, I would look into a speed up pulley for the 50 inch deck, and yes, I would keep it assuming there isn't any rust though. I run my mowers without the covers and keep it clean with my backpack blower after each use.. I think with most old used mower decks, you usually replace the belts, bearings, blades ect.. so if you only have $20 invested, yes I would spend another $150-200 and fully restore it, but that is my pocket book. I'd sell the 46" to finance the project too.. no need to have two, but it sure would be nice to have one free restored 50 inch after you sell the other.. |

Scott, looks like you have at least $20 in parts. Before you try to take any more bolts off, get the rest of them soaking with some PB Blaster or a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. Then you might need to use some heat and/or a nutcracker to get this apart. If it was mine, I would try to figure out how extensive the rust is on the shell next. Simple green and/or dish soap with a wheel brush and a garden hose would help a lot. |

Looking for some advice... I went to look at a deck advertised on CL yesterday. It was listed as a 318 48" deck for $100 obo. I could not tell what size it was and it has some serious rust issues and the bearings were nearly seized and someone sprayed it JD green (recently). I offered the guy $20 for parts and scrap value and he took it. So when I got it home, a little nail polish remover revealed the tag under the paint and I looked it up. It is a 50" deck. The blades on this one look decent, the guide wheels are good. That is about it for the good. The bad: the bearings are shot, the tension spring is broken in half, there are a couple rust holes on top and the front wall of the deck is looking thin. The edge of the chute is also rough. And I have already broken a couple bolts getting the covers off. Should I spend the money on fixing this 50" to make it usable or just part it out? I have a 46" deck on my 318 and the only problem I have right now is getting more tension on the belt, it seems loose to me. Sometimes heavy grass will slow the blades. Here is a pic: Scott |

New member and new to ownership as well. I'm hoping you can provide some advice on buying a 1983 single owner JD 400 with 60" deck (1200hrs, well maintained) vs a 'new' X300 with a 48" deck. We have a 50 acre property, but really only 1 acre that needs mowing and then some longer trails through fields that need to be kept clear. A 'new' x300 would be ~2X the price of the 400. Any advice? Cheers |

You guys were discussing hoists. I got this idea from a publication for another brand of LGT that used a similar hoist to move crates and put this sketch together sometime ago elaborating on the theme with my own ideas. Of course your ideas can be incorporated to make it better. Pretty good idea I think if you're limited on space.

Hey Jeff...NICE 318 you found there I'm sure you can get it fitted with a 3 point hitch and get a plow on it before our Mayfield Show & Plow Day in October. Maybe your 318 can challenge "Darth VaDeere" to some sort of plowin' contest ...Elliott |

Hello, Just posting this in case someone has the same problem as me with the 110 not starting. Talked to a guy at the local Deere store and he said to test the solenoid by turning on the key, then touching the two terminals on the solenoid with a pliers. If it turns over it's bad. It turned over.I replaced the solenoid today. Started right up. Deere had one on hand for $14. |

I just came across a Haban 408D. Price seems reasonable to me but I don't know if it would work on my 212. There is a 406 under the allied vendors section but nothing on this model. Will it work (without rebuilding it) Dominic |

I am trying to find out info on John Deere push plows. (Not sure if this is the correct terminology to describe the type of plow one would attach to a horse/mule and walk behind.) It has the original handles. It was my grandfather's and I am attempting to help my gram as she is considering selling it. Basically just trying to figure out the correct name and, also, determine if there is an interest in items such as this one. I have a photo of it but the photo was too large to attach. Thank you! |

David, If you do a search for John Deere B on this site, you will find that a guy has built a replica from a round fender tractor. Quite a few people have built narrow front garden tractors and most of them are based on a round fender tractor. People seem to do more of that with round fender tractors. Maybe it's an aesthetic thing. Lowell Gates built a replica of a model D based on a 60 lawn tractor. If you are going to build the frame and all, the Peerless transaxle from about 1966 to 1987 is the same for all the gear drive tractors. The shifter may be different. The square fender frames from 1968 to 1987 are very similar, and the engines and engine cradles from about 1971 to 1987 are very similar. Steve |

Steve not sure what you are looking at but RFs were not built after 1967. Maybe it is a different year or maybe it is a square fender but it isn't a 1970 RF. How about a picture so we know what it is. Do you mean a 70 lawn tractor. Then it is a lawn tractor not a RF. Roger |

David, the latest 112 with the Kohler K301 engine is similar to the early 212. Some earlier 112's had Tecumseh engines. You know that the 200-series had the fuel tank under the seat and all that, right? |

I have a 1974 110 with a 10hp Kohler. Was running fine last time I used it, now it won't start. I took off the starter and had a shop here put new brushes in and oil it. Put it back in and still nothing. The electric lift for the deck works. Any ideas? Solenoid? |

Lucas- a 420 is an excellent garden tractor! The Onan can be worked on, or you can repower with a Briggs, Honda or a Kohler. There are several attachments, most of which show up for sale on ebay and this site. My advice would be to buy it if possible, you can always resell it on this site if you decide against keeping it. |

I must be lucky. Our local JD dealer is in a small rural town in West Virginia and the parts guys are very helpful even if they don't know every tractor. on several occasions in the last few months alone they have called back to one of the mechanics to answer a question for me or to help me remove a stubborn pulley and even loaned me a tool once so I didn't have to buy one. Sometimes, I wish their prices were lower, but on the other hand they have saved me money or put tires (that I bought somewhere else) on my rims without charging me. |

Douglas, You need to find a different dealer if the one you had did not help you. I can't imagine my dealer not going that extra for me or anyone. Talk to the mechanic and get you true options if you aren't a wrench turner or start asking questions here and become one. Dom |

Douglas, If you have breaker-less ignition you have solid state, the part that you need can only be found used, but you can just convert the ignition to battery coil with points (that is much simpler)in just a few hours. |

I have a HABAN model 426 sickle bar mower, and I now have a 140 H3 I would like to put it on, I see the manual calls for a 416 for the 120-140 models and the 426 fits the 110-112 tractors, I have the 90 degree assembly but it would not be used for the 140 style . will this fit my tractor ???? if it does not or will not fit, I will sell it.... I also have a HABAN model 414 for wheel horse that I will be advertising for sale soon}} 414 haban sickle bar on 520H wheel horse DSC00014.JPE (15.5 k) |

Picked up a 37A E2102 snowblower over the weekend. From what I can tell it's only missing the pulley cover and the lift rod. I've seen a couple different lift rods; is the one I need long with U shaped connectors on each end? Are there any special parts I need on the tractor (1971 112H)? I don't have any manuals. Thanks guys! - Brian |

I recently bought a jd 140 tractor that quit after just one use. I've exchanged the battery, put on a new starter and solenoid, and still won't start. I gave up and took it to a JD dealer shop and they replaced the ignition coil, but it still wouldn't start. They said it's the model that has the breaker-less ignition system and not points. The part (#AM32074) is not available through JD. The tractor is being brought back tomorrow, still not running, and now I need to find this part. Any ideas?? I looked on ebay but no luck yet. |

Questions for anyone that has purchased the 23x10.50 Firestone Bar tires from Miller. I was wondering what the height measures after they have been installed and inflated? I have run into a lot of 23" tires that don't measure 23". Also, does anyone have pictures of the mounts or manuals for the Brantly back hoes? I may be looking at one this week and am not sure what is made to fit. I might be for a 140 but I was hoping to see pictures of the mounts to figure it out. I have looked through the gallery and searched the forum but didn't find much. Thanks, John |

Wow, neat first plowing experience. That tractor is just too cool! I think Glen is planning on bring it down to Little G again this year. Mine was on my first JD garden tractor. A 212 with turf tires and a very badly adjusted 10" brinly that made for a frustrating experience! |
