John- Loren is right, the cookie is .5" thick. The 317 has a tube that sticks down below the hydro, but it's towards the rear of the blade. I have seen some torched for 317s but not up there where yours is cut out John. Not sure what's going on there. Robb Kruger would be the man to ask. John a square piece of flat stock 1/4" x 3 1/2" will work for those brackets, they don't need all the angle cuts to work. al z

John, Looks to be 1/2" (or just a hair over) so I bet it is .5 inches. I have seen other belly blades where the top was cut out to work on a 3xx series. I don't have a 317 so I can't tell you why, but I have seen it done. |

Oh yes, One more question on the bracket1 How long/thick a slice of that 5/8" bearing stock do I need to weld on the 1/4" plate? I know the total overall outside to outside width needs to fit the space between the blade frame points, but it would be nice to know how long to cut that stock. Thanks again! |

Great! Thanks Al & everyone for the comments. I had compared the 140 frame to the 214 frame and figured the bracket mounted with the top holes on the 214. Thanks for confirming my guess. Notice the rough cut out on the top plate of the blade frame? They tell me that was cut out so the blade could be used on a 317. Would that be necessary Al? Looks bad, but made worth it to enable use on the 317s. ---- Also... Thanks to a forum member I received 2 genuine jd CDs today! Part Catalog, 200 Series L G Tractors-PC1473 & Tech Manual ,200 Series L G Tractors-SM2105 ---- Interesting reading. |

Hi All. Butch S.- If you mean why are there three 1/2" mounting holes the reason is that for a 54C you use the top two holes to mount the bracket to the tractor frame while for a 43C you use the lower two holes. Kent |

John, Congrats! I absolutely love the center blades. Work doesnt let me run blade very often so I can now play at home! Al, What is the lower hole (as mounted) on the bracket intended for? |

Darn, I wanted to try the 54C blade out today and I find I'm missing the rear mount brackets! I thought they mounted direct to the tractor frame. Seems I need a right & left version of something like this. Guess I'll make them myself but I could use the dimensions. I know Jim B. has these for sale but I hae the steel and the means to do it myself I guess. Sure would be nice to have a scan of the dimensions. Anyone here that could do me this favor? |

The 316 reminds me of John Deere's commercial line of equipment. It even looks like the same yellow. |

I have to agree that yellow 316 is sharp. Brad or Phil could you check with the dealer that painted the tractor and find out what color they used? I have a 314 that could use a paint job and it just might turn yellow. Thanks, John |

Terry, Oh!!!Well I seen that one on here somewhere and wondered if that was it. Tell ya what, I like that color scheme so well I am tempted to paint one up like that. I think that is so sharp! And it does grow on ya from the initial shock! I really like it. |

Speaking of Teac reel to reel decks, I still have the one I purchased in 1973, Model A2349R. It needs someone to get it working right. I to have some old tapes I'd like to hear again. Navy 1970-1974. Looks like we are a bunch of old Vets here.... Where are the pictures of this yellow 316?? |

Like Todd said, you can thank the military for a lot to technical advanements throughout the years. And to keep this sort of on topic, when I was in the Army, I was a Combat Engineer, so along with our jeeps, M16 rifle, and M60 machine gun, we had heavy equipment, i.e. bucket loaders, dump trucks, and a JD backhoe (that's the part that is sort of on topic). |

Phil, First to stay on topic the yellow 316 still has green & yellow blood. I want to second what Jonathan said, thanks for your service to the USA! I think pretty much everything you can think of owes some part of its being to the US armed forces. Take the internet, it was started as a network for the US military or John Deere who wouldn't exist if not for all the freedom they and we enjoy thanks to the US military. Thanks to all who have ever served from revolutionary, civil, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, GW1(was there), GW2 and every little battle and conflict in between. Ok, now I will get off the soap box. |

Well, I can see this is a GREAT bunch to talk with. I think Brad told me that once. I know about the M-14, Jeep, reel-reel tapes,OD green fatigues and ball caps. I could go on& on . I joined the MO. Guard in ' 71 and here I am, 53yrs. old and over here. I feel for the young men & women in the convoys, going house-house, searching for the IED's(improvised explosive device). This is a different kind of war. I pray that we can leave soon and be done with it, but this will be like N. Korea, always a thorn. |

Bill, I hadn't noticed the PayPal either, thanks for pointing it out (sure makes it easy to send a little donation to keep up the bandwidth) Phil, Thank you for your service to this country of ours. Got to use 'a' loader last night, unfortunately, it was one of them funny orange colored units (Kubota L2350) that a guy from work is letting me use. Sure bets a shovel and the #10 cart behind the 318. Jon |

Bill - I still have a Teac 1200 reel to reel that still works & a crap load of tapes. I found it in the corner of the basement last year and had to set it up. Listened for a while and it brought back some very good memories along with some not so good. Gave it all to my daughter. Mike |

Phil, I think you'll like that 316 just fine. Variety is truly the spice of life . Yeah, things are definitely different than when I was overseas in Vietnam. Back then we recorded on miniature reel-to-reel tapes. It was cool because you could hear your girlfriend tell you "I'm sorry....I've found someone new," over and over again until it sunk in. I've still got a tape here that hasn't been played since 1969 that I'd kind of like to hear but have no way to play it. I don't know if it would actually still play or not. It's been sitting in a plastic mailing case for the last 36 years. |

Morning, Mike. I can agree, things have changed in the military even since I was in, in the late '70's and early '80's. Of course, we wouldn't be here on the internet back then either. I remember the first time I sent a fax back in the early '80's... Of course, since we were in the military, we had steel pots, jeeps, M60 tanks; now it's Kelvar helmets, Humvee's and M1 Abrams, not to mention "Smart Bombs", etc. |

Hi Folks! After dealing with tire issues on the 332/44 loader this week...finally have everything functional once again.(darn day job restricts getting this stuff done! <smile> ...Anyway, I chose to just add tubes to the front tires for now,(4 ply), but hopefully I won't be in the mess I was in that caused this! (had a burn pile that had some metal in it, discovered as I was grading it with the box-blade)... Anyway, nice to have the 332 back together and ready to work. ...and the 318 is ready to mow for a third time this spring once the wet weather passes... Have fun all... gotta admit, there is fun in just the "tinkering" with these well built, but "older" JD units. I have yet to see a "new" that even comes close to this quality that JD mastered for these "older" units. Hope everyone enjoys what you have and who you're with... and always, work safe! Mark ...and yes, Life Is Good when tires hold air!!!
